How long do you have to get a Copilot Pro refund? 30 days from the charge
You have 30 days from the charge. Microsoft's refund policy covers a first purchase cancelled within 30 days, or before the first renewal if that comes sooner, and your latest renewal cancelled within 30 days of payment. That second case has a limit. In Microsoft's words: "This refund right is limited to one time per Microsoft account, per subscription product."
As of October 2026, Microsoft's 30 day window is the longest written refund window of these five AI subscriptions for a buyer in the US. OpenAI offers a discretionary refund on an unused plan if you ask within seven days. Perplexity gives 24 hours on a monthly plan. Anthropic and Google write no window at all outside the EEA, the UK and a few named countries. Each row is the vendor's own policy text, read on 18 October 2026. None of it is a guess at what support will grant.
Microsoft's policy tables name Microsoft 365 plans, not Copilot Pro. That doesn't shut you out. The 30 day rule covers any subscription bought directly from Microsoft, and its refund help page lists Copilot Pro under the products it applies to.
How do you request a Copilot Pro refund from Microsoft?
You request it by cancelling. Microsoft has no separate refund form: its policy says "Eligibility is determined automatically during the cancellation process", and the cancel screen tells you whether money is coming back.
- Go to account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the account that paid. Microsoft stresses this: "It's important to use that account."
- Find Copilot Pro and select Manage.
- Select Cancel. On some plans the button reads Upgrade or Cancel.
- Follow the prompts and read the refund line before you confirm.
Two screens trip people up. If you see Turn on recurring billing where Manage should be, the plan is already set to end and won't charge again. If the cancel screen offers no refund, Microsoft has placed you outside the window. Its refund page says so plainly: "Not all cancellations result in a refund."
A refund can also end your access early. Microsoft says access runs to the end of the billing period "if no refund is issued", so a refunded plan can stop the same day. Copy out anything you need first.
Microsoft's old help page for cancelling Copilot Pro now redirects to its general page for cancelling any Microsoft subscription. The steps haven't changed.
Who refunds Copilot Pro bought on an iPhone, an Android phone or with a gift card?
Whoever took the money refunds it. Microsoft's policy sends App Store and Google Play buyers to those stores, and it excludes prepaid retail codes, which follow the return policy of the shop that sold the code.
| Where you paid | Who refunds it | How to ask | Window |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft website | Microsoft | Cancel at account.microsoft.com/services, the screen shows eligibility | 30 days from the charge, once per product |
| App Store on iPhone or iPad | Apple | reportaproblem.apple.com, then I'd like to, then Request a refund | Apple decides |
| Google Play on Android | A refund request through Google Play | Google Play's rules | |
| Prepaid code from a shop | The shop | The shop's returns desk | The shop's return policy |
Apple says to allow 24 to 48 hours for an answer. Microsoft support can't touch an Apple or Google charge, so asking Microsoft first only costs you days off the store's clock.
Which countries get a prorated Copilot refund after 30 days?
Past 30 days, only buyers in a short list of places get money back, and Microsoft's own pages disagree on the list. Its refund policy, read on 18 October 2026, names 19 countries and territories where Microsoft 365 plans can be cancelled for a prorated refund at any time: Canada, Denmark, France, Israel, Korea and Türkiye, plus Greenland, the Faroe Islands and 11 French overseas territories.
Its prorated refunds page lists six countries for any plan length (Canada, Denmark, France, Israel, Korea and Turkey) and five more for plans longer than a month that have renewed. Its cancel page drops France and moves Denmark into the renewed group. A monthly Copilot Pro plan bought in Germany, Finland, the Netherlands, Poland or Portugal gets nothing prorated, because Microsoft says "monthly subscriptions and initial (pre-renewal) purchases aren't eligible."
The US, the UK and Australia aren't on any of the three lists. There, the 30 day rule is the written policy. Microsoft adds that it "doesn't affect any additional rights you may have under applicable law", so a local consumer right still stands beside it.
Can you get a refund for the Copilot price rise on Microsoft 365?
In Australia Microsoft offered one, and the deadline has passed. On 27 October 2025 the ACCC took Microsoft to the Federal Court, alleging it misled about 2.7 million Australian subscribers by hiding a Classic plan that kept the old price without Copilot. The ACCC says Personal rose 45 per cent, from A$109 to A$159 a year, and Family 29 per cent, from A$139 to A$179.
Microsoft apologized on 6 November 2025: "We fell short of our standards here, and we apologise." Its email offered to refund the price difference, back to the first renewal after 30 November 2024, to subscribers who switched to Personal or Family Classic by 31 December 2025. Microsoft said it would pay within 30 days, to the payment method on the plan, and only to people who got the email.
The ACCC's case asks the court for consumer redress. As of October 2026 we found no ACCC release announcing a judgment, so an Australian who missed the 2025 deadline should watch the ACCC's media releases.
Outside Australia we found no Microsoft refund offer for the rise. Microsoft added Copilot to Personal and Family worldwide in January 2025, with a $3 a month increase in the US. If a renewal at the higher price landed less than 30 days ago, the standard rule refunds it when you cancel that plan. Our Copilot statistics page dates every Copilot plan and price change since 2022.
What if Microsoft charged you for Copilot Pro after 1 August 2026?
Cancel within 30 days and the same refund rule applies. On 18 October 2026, Microsoft's Copilot Pro page still read: "Copilot Pro is no longer available for purchase; existing subscribers can continue using it until they cancel or support ends on August 1, 2026." Microsoft hasn't published what it did with plans still renewing on that date.
So check your subscriptions page, not the calendar. A renewal date next to Copilot Pro means another charge is coming. If you don't recognize a charge at all, Microsoft points you to the Manage your payments page in your account. Trace it there before you ask for money back.
Can you get a refund on GitHub Copilot Pro?
Not under a standing rule, as of October 2026. GitHub Copilot Pro is a separate $10 a month coding plan. GitHub's docs say "You can cancel your Copilot plan at any time", that you keep your features until the billing cycle ends, and that you then drop to Copilot Free. They name no refund window.
GitHub published one refund offer, and it was temporary. When it tightened limits on individual plans in April 2026, its changelog said Pro and Pro+ users could cancel and "receive a refund for the time remaining on your current subscription." That option ran until 20 May.
Where should the money go after a Copilot Pro refund?
Microsoft names Microsoft 365 Premium, at $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year in the US, as the way to keep Copilot inside Word, Excel and Outlook. It says Premium "combines everything in our Microsoft 365 Family and Copilot Pro subscriptions."
If you mostly used Copilot Pro as a chat window, Whizi Starter puts ChatGPT Luna, Claude Haiku and Whizi AI in one chat for $15.99 a month. It doesn't run inside Word or Outlook and has no cloud storage. If Office is where you worked, Premium is the better swap.
- Check whether Microsoft, Apple or Google Play charged you before you ask anyone
- Cancel at account.microsoft.com/services within 30 days of the charge you want back
- Read the refund line on the cancel screen before you confirm
- Copy out anything you need, since a refund can end access the same day
Frequently asked questions
Does Microsoft refund Copilot Pro if I forgot to cancel?
Yes, if the renewal is less than 30 days old and you haven't used this refund on Copilot Pro before. Microsoft refunds your latest recurring charge once per account per product, so a second forgotten renewal isn't covered. Our guide to AI subscription refunds compares that rule with other vendors.
Can I get a Copilot Pro refund after 30 days?
Only if you bought it in a country Microsoft lists for prorated refunds, such as Canada, France, Israel, Korea or Türkiye. Everywhere else, cancelling stops the next charge and you keep the plan to its end date. If you're weighing whether to keep it until then, Copilot vs ChatGPT compares the two by task.
Is it easier to get a refund on ChatGPT Plus than on Copilot Pro?
No. OpenAI offers a discretionary refund only on an unused plan within seven days of the charge, and says forgetting to cancel doesn't qualify on its own. Microsoft's policy text gives 30 days and sets no usage test. Our ChatGPT Plus cancel guide shows where to ask for a refund by who billed you.
What replaced Copilot Pro?
Microsoft 365 Premium, at $19.99 a month in the US. Microsoft stopped selling Copilot Pro when it launched Premium on 1 October 2025. If you only want an AI chat and not Office, our Copilot alternatives page lists options by how you work.
