How to get a Google AI Pro refund when Google says plans are non-refundable

In brief

Google One's policy states that in most countries storage plan purchases are non-refundable, and Google AI Pro is a Google One plan. A refund therefore depends on the biller: Google Play purchases follow Play's refund rules, App Store purchases go to Apple, and web purchases are refundable only where local law requires it, with Israel named as a prorated exception.

Google publishes no refund window outside Israel, and that is the answer

Google AI Pro has no billing page of its own. It is a Google One membership, so its refund policy is Google One's, and that policy, read on 22 September 2026, opens with: "In most countries or regions, Google storage plan purchases are non-refundable." The storage you bought "is yours for the length of the subscription, even if you decide to cancel it."

Put against three other AI subscriptions, Google is the strictest of the four by its own wording. OpenAI says an accidental purchase is "generally eligible" if you ask within 14 days. Anthropic writes a 14 day right into its policy for the EEA and UK. Perplexity gives 24 hours on a monthly plan. Google gives a number only for Israel.

The rows above are each vendor's own policy text, not our judgement of what they will do in practice. Google's page does not say a refund is impossible; it says the purchase is non-refundable in most regions and hands the store purchases to the stores.

Who billed you decides which door is open

Because Google One can be bought in three places, the refund route is set by the receipt, and two of the three routes are not Google One's policy at all.

Where you subscribedWho charged youWhere to askWhat Google One's policy says
one.google.com or the Gemini app on the webGoogleGoogle One supportNon-refundable in most regions; Israel prorated
Google Play on AndroidGoogle PlayPlay, Payments and subscriptions, Budget and order history, Request a refund"go to Learn about Google Play refund policies"
App Store on iPhone or iPadApplereportaproblem.apple.com"request a refund from Apple support"
A carrier or ISP bundleYour carrierThe carrier's perks pageGoogle cannot cancel or refund it

The Play route is the one with give in it. Google Play handles refund requests for purchases through your order history, and Play's own policies are more forgiving on recent purchases than Google One's statement is. Ask there first if Play billed you, and ask quickly, because Play's rules are most forgiving inside the first 48 hours.

The iOS trap is one Google documents in its Gemini help: if you subscribed to Google One from a different app, managing the plan "opens your subscriptions in Apple settings", and the billing lives with Apple whether or not you use Gemini there. Google support cannot refund an Apple charge.

The two exceptions that actually get money back on a web purchase

Israel, in Google's own words. "If you're based in Israel, you may have the option to cancel your Google One membership with immediate effect and request a partial refund", prorated on the days left in the subscription. The same page gives Israel 14 days on a Top-Up AI Credits purchase, prorated if used.

The EU and UK statutory right. Consumer law in both gives 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase of a digital subscription. Google One's refund page does not mention it, unlike Anthropic's, so cite it in the request explicitly and note that it applies to the initial purchase, not to a renewal. The general version of that argument, and the evidence that providers honour it, is in getting a refund on an AI subscription.

Outside those two, a web purchase refund is a support request against a policy that says no. The practical move for a renewal you missed is to cancel today and use what you paid for, because Google keeps the benefits running to the end of the cycle.

Cancel now, keep everything to the end of the cycle

Google One's cancellation rule removes the usual reason to wait. "You can cancel your storage subscription at any time", and "at the start of the next month of your plan, you'll be downgraded to the personal storage of up to 15 GB", so the plan you paid for runs until then. A cancellation on day 3 of a cycle costs nothing you have not already paid for.

The path, from how to cancel Google AI Pro: go to one.google.com, confirm the account shown is the one being charged, open Settings, choose Cancel membership and confirm. The confirmation should show the date your benefits end.

Then read your storage number before that date arrives. AI Pro carries 5 TB. If you are above 15 GB when the plan lapses, the account goes over quota: everything stays readable, nothing new uploads, and Gmail can eventually stop accepting mail. If storage is the part you use, how to downgrade Google AI Pro is the cheaper move than cancelling: AI Plus keeps 400 GB for $4.99, and a storage only tier keeps 100 GB for $1.99.

If the reason is that Gemini alone was not $19.99 of work

The common Google AI Pro refund story is a plan bought for Gemini, used for a month of chat, and then noticed on a statement. The free Gemini tier keeps most of that use, and the storage is the part with lasting consequences.

If you wanted a strong model rather than Google's bundle, Whizi carries Gemini 3.7 Flash at 2 credits a message and Gemini 3.1 Pro at 10 on its Pro plan, next to GPT, Claude Sonnet, Grok and DeepSeek, for $29.99 a month or $19.99 billed yearly. What you give up is specific: there is no storage, no Gmail or Docs integration, and no Google One family sharing. Whizi vs Gemini Advanced states each side plainly.

Whichever way you go, the refund decision here is short: ask the store if a store billed you, cite the law if the law is on your side, and otherwise cancel and use the month.

Workflow checklist
  • Read the receipt to find whether Google, Play, Apple or a carrier charged you
  • Ask Google Play or Apple directly if they billed you; Google One cannot refund a store charge
  • Cite the Israel exception or the EU and UK 14 day right if either applies to a web purchase
  • Cancel at one.google.com, Settings, Cancel membership, and note the end date on the confirmation
  • Get under 15 GB or downgrade to a storage tier before the benefits end
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Does Google refund Google AI Pro?

Google One's policy says storage plan purchases are non-refundable in most countries, and Google AI Pro is a Google One plan. The exceptions it names are Israel, with an immediate cancellation and prorated refund, and purchases made through Google Play or the App Store, which follow the store's refund rules.

How do I get a refund if I bought Google AI Pro through Google Play?

Google One sends Play purchases to Google Play's refund policies. Open Google Play, go to Payments and subscriptions, then Budget and order history, find the Google One charge and request the refund from that order. Ask soon after the charge, since Play's rules are most forgiving inside the first 48 hours.

Can I get a Google AI Pro refund in the EU or UK?

The 14 day withdrawal right on a distance purchase of a digital subscription applies in both, on the initial purchase rather than a renewal. Google One's refund page does not mention it, so state it explicitly in the request.

If I cancel Google AI Pro, do I lose it immediately?

No. Google says you are downgraded to the free 15 GB at the start of the next month of your plan, so the Gemini Pro features and the storage allowance run to the end of the cycle you paid for. Cancelling early therefore costs nothing.

What happens to my files after a refund or cancellation?

Your allowance returns to 15 GB. Files above that stay readable and downloadable but the account cannot add new uploads or photo backups, and Gmail can eventually stop accepting mail. Downgrading to AI Plus at $4.99 with 400 GB or a 100 GB storage tier at $1.99 avoids that.
