SuperGrok vs Claude Pro: SuperGrok's $30 replacement now buys Cursor, and $20 still buys Claude Opus

In brief

Claude Pro at $20 a month is the better buy for coding, writing and long files, and SuperGrok is the better buy for images, video and live X posts. On 12 October 2026 xAI replaced SuperGrok with Premium at $30, which adds Cursor. Claude Opus scores 58 on Artificial Analysis, against 46 for the newest Grok.

SuperGrok is now Premium: $30 for Grok, Cursor and X, against $20 for Claude Pro

xAI launched The X Subscription on 12 October 2026, and its pricing page doesn't list SuperGrok any more. Its $30 tier, Premium, is the replacement. xAI's launch post describes it as "The benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro, and X Premium+, previously $90/month combined." Claude Pro still costs $20 a month, or $17 a month billed yearly at $200. We read both vendors' pages on 25 October 2026.

The coding row is the one that most reviews will miss. xAI's pricing page says "3rd party models available in Cursor, billed separately", and the FAQ on that page says the plans "do not include an allowance for third-party models." So $30 buys you Cursor running Grok, not Cursor running Claude. That's a big gap. Anthropic's Claude Code article goes the other way. It says a Pro plan "also covers Claude Code in supported IDEs, including VS Code, Cursor and other VS Code forks".

Is Claude better than Grok?

Claude has the stronger models as of October 2026. Claude Opus scores 58 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v4.3.2 and Claude Sonnet scores 56. The newest Grok, which xAI announced on 21 September, scores 46. Both Claude models are on the $20 plan.

Grok is the cheaper model to run. Artificial Analysis lists the newest Grok at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output, and it cost $3.74 to run each task of the index. Claude Sonnet costs $2 and $10, and it cost $5.46 a task. Opus costs $4 and $20. On a flat plan you don't pay by the token, so for you the score matters more than the price does.

xAI's plans page doesn't name the model in Chat. It says "Latest Grok models". Its 21 September launch post puts the newest Grok in Cursor, Grok Build and the API, and all three come with Premium now. Grok vs Claude compares the two labs' models in more depth, and Grok vs ChatGPT runs the same comparison against OpenAI.

Is SuperGrok or Claude Pro better for coding?

Claude Pro is the better coding plan for most people, because Claude Code runs a model that scores 10 to 12 points higher. Premium is the better coding plan if you want Cursor and its agents on a Grok model. xAI says each new plan "includes at least twice as much coding usage with our models as the comparable Cursor plan."

The two plans meter coding the same way. xAI's FAQ says "Every tier includes a pool of AI usage shared across Grok and Cursor." Anthropic says its limits "are shared across Claude and Claude Code, meaning all activity in both tools counts against the same limits." On either plan, a long agent run eats your chat allowance.

You can also stack them. If you'd keep Cursor on Premium anyway, a Claude Pro login runs Claude Code inside the same editor for $20 more. If you run Claude in Cursor at API list price, you pay $4 for each million tokens you send to Opus and $20 for each million it writes. There's no ceiling on that but the cap you set. The Pro login is $20 flat. Is Claude Pro worth it covers what the $20 plan holds before you add it.

SuperGrok vs Claude Pro usage limits: a weekly pool against a five hour session

Neither vendor publishes a message count. xAI sells Premium at "4x more usage compared to Plus", the $8 tier, and says "Your allowance refreshes weekly, so one heavy day never wipes out your whole month." Anthropic says Claude Pro's "session-based usage limit will reset every five hours" and adds a weekly limit across all models.

The two shapes suit different weeks. If you have one heavy day after a quiet one, the weekly pool is the one you want. If you work at the same pace every day, the five hour session is fine, but it can stop you cold in the middle of a long morning. When Grok's pool runs out, xAI says "you can keep going with top-ups, or wait for your allowance to refresh." Claude Pro users can wait or buy usage credits.

Video costs the most on Grok. xAI says "usage costs vary by product", so Imagine clips drain the pool faster than chat. SuperGrok limits and Claude Pro limits cover each meter in detail.

Grok wins images, video and X, and Claude wins code, writing and long files

Images and video are the cleanest split. xAI's Grok page lists "Text-to-video up to 15 seconds at 720p" and images "Up to 2K resolution". Anthropic's help center says "Claude doesn't generate photos or illustrations the way image-generation tools do." Live news is the other one. xAI says that Grok "Searches the web and 𝕏 live". Claude can search the web too, but it has no feed from X at all. That's Grok's edge.

Should you keep an old SuperGrok plan or switch?

You can keep it. xAI's launch post says "Nothing changes for existing SuperGrok, Cursor, or X Premium subscribers." If you do switch, xAI says you'll "get a prorated refund for your old plan", with offers that show in your billing settings. Switch if you want Cursor or the X Premium+ perks. Premium adds both for the same $30.

If what you want is Grok and Claude on one bill, Whizi Pro is $29.99 a month as of October 2026. It has Claude Opus, Claude Sonnet and Grok side by side in one chat, from one credit allowance. Credits per message vary by model and can change. Whizi loses on every tool row above: no Cursor, no Claude Code, no Imagine video and no live X search. Each message also caps input at 40,000 tokens, where Claude takes up to 1M.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you still buy SuperGrok?

No, not from xAI's pricing page. xAI launched The X Subscription on 12 October 2026, and it says each new tier "provides more usage-per-dollar than the plan it replaces." Its $30 Premium tier carries the SuperGrok benefits plus Cursor Pro and X Premium+. Existing SuperGrok subscribers keep their plan and price. How to cancel SuperGrok covers stopping an old plan.

Is SuperGrok better than Claude Pro for coding?

No, Claude Pro is better for most coding. Claude Opus scores 58 on Artificial Analysis to the newest Grok's 46 as of October 2026, and Claude Code works in the terminal, VS Code and Cursor. Premium wins only if you want Cursor running a Grok model. Claude Pro vs Claude Max covers what to do when Pro runs out.

Does Grok Premium include Claude in Cursor?

No. xAI's pricing page says third party models in Cursor are "billed separately", at API list prices, and the plans include no allowance for them. A Claude Pro login runs Claude Code in Cursor instead, inside the $20 plan's limits. How to remove a card from Claude covers the billing side if you test Claude for a month.

Which has more usage, SuperGrok or Claude Pro?

Neither vendor gives a number, so nobody can say which holds more messages. Premium is sold as 4x the $8 Plus plan, in one weekly pool shared with Cursor. Claude Pro resets every five hours with a weekly limit on top, as of October 2026. Is SuperGrok worth it explains how the Grok pool is spent.
