What are the SuperGrok limits on each plan?
The grok.com checkout no longer sells SuperGrok to new customers. xAI announced The X Subscription, a bundle of Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium, on 12 October 2026, and the checkout now shows only its tiers. Teslarati reported a day later that the old plans are closed to new sign ups. We compiled the table from xAI's pricing page, that checkout and the announcement on 18 October 2026, with each usage cell in xAI's own words. Prices are US list prices before tax, without the 50% off first month.
| Plan, October 2026 | Price a month, or a year | Usage xAI prints | Video | Models | Grok Bot |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | "Limited AI usage", "Limited Chat requests" | Imagine "Limited", no video line | not named | no |
| Plus | $8, or $80 a year | "Basic", the 1x every other tier is measured against | Imagine included, no video line | not named | no |
| Premium | $30, or $300 a year | "4x more usage compared to Plus" | "Make stunning AI images & videos" | "Latest Grok models" | yes |
| Super | $100, or $1,000 a year | "15x more usage compared to Plus" | "Create 1080p videos" | "Priority model access at peak times" | yes |
| Ultra | $200, or $2,000 a year | "50x more usage compared to Plus" | 1080p, from Super | "Most powerful Chat models" | yes |
Divide each multiple by its price and the ladder isn't flat. Ultra buys twice the usage per dollar that Plus does. Super buys 1.2 times as much. Premium, the $30 tier that took SuperGrok's place, buys only about 7% more per dollar than Plus. Yearly billing doesn't change the order, because all four yearly prices are ten times the monthly ones. xAI's announcement says "Each comparable new tier provides more usage-per-dollar than the plan it replaces." It doesn't say how much more. We did the sums.
Existing subscribers keep their old plan. xAI says "Nothing changes for existing SuperGrok, Cursor, or X Premium subscribers." Those plans were described the same way, against each other. On the grok.com checkout we read on 11 October 2026, the day before it was replaced, SuperGrok Lite at $10 gave "2x longer conversations in Chat" and SuperGrok at $30 gave "5x". SuperGrok Plus at $100 promised "Significantly higher usage", and Heavy at $300 promised "Highest usage at the fastest speed". FamilyPro's review of 20 September 2026 lists the same four prices and the same 2x and 5x lines.
Do SuperGrok limits reset daily or every 2 hours?
Neither: paid Grok usage resets once a week, on a date shown in the Usage tab of Settings. xAI's Grok FAQ still answers under the heading "How do SuperGrok's weekly usage limits work?". It says "The usage pool limit resets every week on a schedule shown in the Usage tab in Settings." That pool started "Rolling out in June 2026". It replaced the separate daily caps for each tool.
The new pricing page keeps the weekly clock. Its FAQ reads: "Your allowance refreshes weekly, so one heavy day never wipes out your whole month." Within Grok, it says, the pool "covers Chat, Imagine, Voice, and Bot". On The X Subscription the same pool also pays for Cursor's coding agents. So a long Cursor session now eats into the week's Grok chat.
Free accounts run on their own clock. xAI says the free Chat and Voice limits "are separate from your weekly usage limit and resets on their own schedule". The announcement describes Free as "Daily access to Grok". xAI publishes no count and no hour for it. You'll find out when you hit it.
Running out isn't the end of the week. The FAQ says "Hitting the weekly usage limit is not a hard stop." Paid features pause, free Chat and Voice keep working, and Extra Usage Credits start at $5 on the web. On the new plans, the pricing page says "you can keep going with top-ups, or wait for your allowance to refresh." Grok usage limit reached walks through each wall and its fix.
Where do the reported SuperGrok numbers come from?
Every SuperGrok count you'll read on page one comes from a third party, and the most quoted set is older than the weekly pool. Jin Grey's guide, published on 8 June 2026, gives SuperGrok about 800 to 1,000 text messages a day, about 200 image and video operations, 120 voice minutes and 30 requests a minute. Its Heavy column runs to about 10,000 messages and 360 voice minutes. It sends you to an xAI limits page that returned a 404 when we checked it on 18 October 2026. xAI's FAQ dates the weekly pool to June 2026, so those daily numbers describe the per tool caps xAI retired that month.
| Claim about SuperGrok limits | What xAI prints, 18 October 2026 | What others report | Who reported it, and when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Messages a day | No count; one weekly pool shown as a percentage | 800 to 1,000 a day | Jin Grey, 8 June 2026 |
| Images and video | No count; video at 720p "fall back to 480p" past your tier's cap | 200 combined operations a day | Jin Grey, 8 June 2026 |
| Images a day | No count | about 10 to 15 images a day on SuperGrok | Atlas Cloud, 12 June 2026 |
| Videos, after May 2026 | No count | more than 20 videos per 24 hours on SuperGrok, more than 80 per 12 hours on Heavy | Atlas Cloud, citing a May 2026 xAI support email, 12 June 2026 |
| 720p video cap | Exists, no number | 10 to 20 generations, failed ones counted | PiunikaWeb, from subscriber posts, 6 May 2026 |
| Voice | Covered by the pool; free Voice limits separate | 120 minutes a day | Jin Grey, 8 June 2026 |
| SuperGrok Heavy | "Highest usage at the fastest speed" | about 10,000 messages a day | Jin Grey, 8 June 2026 |
| New $30 Premium | "4x more usage compared to Plus" | no independent count yet | none as of 18 October 2026 |
One report is worth reading closely. PiunikaWeb collected posts on 6 May 2026 from SuperGrok subscribers who used up their 720p video quota after 10 to 20 generations. Some said they'd made more than 40 before. They also said moderated videos that failed still counted. xAI didn't comment. It later confirmed only the mechanism, in its FAQ: "720p videos automatically fall back to 480p once you hit the 720p cap for your tier."
Treat Atlas Cloud's video figures as secondhand. It reports a support email, not an xAI page, and it sells access to xAI's API. The two hour counts, such as 100 Grok 3 messages every 2 hours, date from Reddit posts in April 2025. They describe Grok 3. It isn't on any plan you can buy today.
What are the SuperGrok limits for video, voice, companions and files?
Files are the one consumer limit xAI states in plain units: up to 150 MB per file, about 100 files at once on the web and 20 on Android. Everything else is a feature line or a share of the weekly pool. Here is what the FAQ, the pricing page and the old and new checkouts print, as of October 2026:
- Video: SuperGrok made "HD 720p, 30-second video", and SuperGrok Plus made 1080p. On the new tiers, Premium makes images and videos, and Super adds "Create 1080p videos". Past your tier's 720p cap, clips drop to 480p.
- Voice: SuperGrok promised "Longer Voice conversations". On the new plans, voice draws on the same weekly pool as chat.
- Companions: xAI's FAQ says "Companions are available on the iOS app only, and there are no plans to bring them to the web or Android."
- Files: 150 MB per file for "documents, images, code, audio". iOS supports "multiple files" with no number given.
- Context window: xAI prints none for the Grok apps. Its API pricing page gives Grok 4.6 and Grok 4.7 a 500,000 token context.
- Expert and Heavy modes: The old checkout sold Expert mode from Lite up and a "Larger team of agents" on Heavy. The new pricing page and checkout name neither mode. Ultra's line on the checkout is "Most powerful Chat models".
Video is what drains the pool fastest. xAI says "A chat message uses little compute; generating a high-quality video or running a long coding task uses far more." The Usage tab breaks your week down by product, so you can see which one took it. Check it first.
Should you keep SuperGrok or switch to The X Subscription?
Keep SuperGrok if it does what you need, because switching is optional and permanent. xAI's switching page says "Switching is optional" and "A completed switch is permanent and cannot be undone by Support." When you switch, xAI cancels the old SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium plans and refunds unused time separately.
Switch if you'd pay for X or Cursor anyway. Premium at $30 includes what xAI calls the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+, "previously $90/month combined". Heavy subscribers have no named twin. Ultra at $200 sits at the top, so compare on usage, not on price. One change cuts the other way. xAI's Grok FAQ, dated 10 October 2026, still lists API in the Usage tab's breakdown, while the new pricing page says API usage "doesn't draw from your plan's usage pool". How to cancel SuperGrok covers leaving instead.
If what you want is a number you can plan a month around, Whizi prints one. On Whizi Pro ($29.99 a month, or $19.99 a month billed yearly) Grok 4.6 and Grok 4.7 cost 6 credits a message from a 2,500 credit month, which is 416 Grok messages, set out in Grok in Whizi. Where it loses: credits refill only when the UTC month turns, and every Whizi plan stops at 60 messages an hour.
- Open Settings > Usage on grok.com or in the app to see the percentage left, the product breakdown and your reset date
- On an old SuperGrok plan, nothing changes unless you switch; the switch to The X Subscription can't be undone
- Compare the new tiers by multiple, not price: Premium 4x, Super 15x, Ultra 50x the $8 Plus pool
- Make video drafts at 480p and save the 720p cap for the clip you keep
- Expect Cursor sessions on The X Subscription to spend the same weekly pool as Grok chat
- Ignore daily message counts from guides dated before June 2026; xAI moved paid plans to a weekly pool that month
Frequently asked questions
What are the SuperGrok limits per day?
SuperGrok has no daily limit on paid plans: usage comes from one weekly pool that resets on the date in Settings > Usage. Daily counts such as 800 to 1,000 messages describe the per tool caps xAI replaced with the weekly pool in June 2026. Only free accounts keep a separate, unpublished schedule. Grok usage limit reached explains each of the clocks.
What are the SuperGrok Heavy limits?
SuperGrok Heavy has no published limit; xAI's checkout called it "Highest usage at the fastest speed" at $300 a month. As of October 2026 it isn't sold to new customers, and existing Heavy subscribers keep it unless they switch. The nearest new tier is Ultra at $200, with 50x the $8 Plus pool. How to get a refund for SuperGrok covers the yearly Heavy invoice xAI warns about.
How many videos can you make with SuperGrok?
xAI prints no video count for SuperGrok: there is a 720p cap per tier, and past it clips "automatically fall back to 480p". SuperGrok subscribers told PiunikaWeb in May 2026 that they hit the 720p cap after 10 to 20 generations, and Atlas Cloud cites a May 2026 support email allowing more than 20 videos per 24 hours. 1080p needs SuperGrok Plus or the new Super tier. Is SuperGrok worth it weighs video against the price.
Why are my SuperGrok limits so low?
Most often it's because video or long coding runs are spending the weekly pool, and xAI meters that pool by compute, not by message. Its FAQ says a chat message "uses little compute" while a high quality video or a long coding task "uses far more". The Usage tab shows which product took your week. SuperGrok vs ChatGPT Plus compares the $30 pool with OpenAI's $20 plan.
