The sentence that decides the order of everything else
Perplexity answers the question most guides skip, and the answer is the opposite of the assumption: "No, deleting your account will not terminate your subscription. Please ensure you cancel your subscription before deleting your account."
Its data deletion article opens with the same instruction in bolder terms: "IMPORTANT: Please cancel your subscription before deleting your account to avoid charges after deletion."
That produces the specific disaster this page exists to prevent. Someone deletes the account to stop paying, the renewal arrives anyway, and the console they would use to cancel it no longer exists. What is left is a support conversation about an account that has been erased.
So the order is not optional. Cancel. Confirm the cancellation. Then delete. The button says Learn more. It deletes your account
Opened live on a free account on 1 September 2026, the Perplexity settings modal ends with a System section holding Support, Sign out, Sign out of all sessions, Data export, and a Delete account row.
The button beside that row is labelled Learn more.
It does not open an article. It opens a modal headed Confirm Account Deletion, with Cancel and Confirm Deletion. One more click from a label that reads like documentation and the account is scheduled for erasure. Nobody should design it this way, and knowing it is the whole value of reading this before clicking.
What the dialog lists, in its own words: your profile details, preferences and settings will be removed; your search history, sessions and any other content you have shared will be deleted; "All data will be permanently deleted within 30 days. Once complete, it can't be undone."; and a limited set of data may be retained longer where required or permitted by law.
The 30 day undo, and how it undoes you by accident
Perplexity is one of the few vendors in this category with a real grace period, and it is worth knowing in both directions.
"If you sign back in before deletion completes, your deletion request is canceled and your account is reactivated." During those 30 days the account is disabled and scheduled for erasure rather than gone.
Read that as a safety net if you deleted in frustration: sign back in as soon as possible and the request is dropped. Read it as a trap if you meant it, because a browser that still holds the session, a phone app you forgot to sign out of, or a habitual click on a saved tab all count as signing back in. If the deletion was deliberate, sign out everywhere first.
Once the window closes it is final. The email itself is reusable, but signing in with it opens a brand new empty account rather than your old one, and none of the previous data comes back with it.
The smaller tools, for when deletion is too big
Most people arriving here want one thing gone, not everything. Perplexity has a control for each, and none of them costs you the account.

The file row is the one that surprises people. Perplexity keeps uploads for 30 days by default and offers no per file delete, so removing one document means removing the conversation it lived in.
And a boundary on what support can do for you: Perplexity processes GDPR right to erasure requests as full deletions only. It says it cannot action deletions of individual threads or files, and cannot delete a specific date range on request. Those are yours to do with the controls above.
Export first if any of it mattered
The same System section that holds the delete control holds Data export, with an Export my data button, and it is the only step here you cannot repeat later.
Deletion takes your search history, sessions and shared content with it. Thirty days later there is nothing to appeal to. Running the export costs a couple of minutes and turns a permanent decision into a reversible one for the part that usually matters, which is the research rather than the account.
The other row in that section is quietly useful for a different problem entirely. Sign out of all sessions ends every device and browser you are signed in on. If the reason you are on this page is a shared laptop or a phone you no longer have, that is the tool, and it costs you nothing.
If the subscription rather than the service is the problem
Perplexity is a search product with a model picker attached, and most people cancelling it are consolidating rather than leaving AI.
