Which paid AI plans cost less than ChatGPT Plus?
Nine paid plans from eight companies cost less than ChatGPT Plus's $20 a month in the US, as of 25 October 2026. We read each price on the company's own pricing page or its US App Store listing that day. One of the nine, Claude Pro, drops under $20 only when you pay for a year up front.
| Plan | US price | How it bills | Best model the plan's page names | Who it suits |

| ChatGPT Go | $8.00 a month | Monthly only | GPT-5.6 Luna for Think, no GPT-5.6 Sol | ChatGPT users who hit Free's limits |

Perplexity didn't make the list. Its cheapest paid plan, Pro, costs $20.00 in the US App Store, the same as Plus. DeepSeek has no paid plan at all, and its iPhone app lists no in-app purchases. If $0 is the budget, our free ChatGPT alternatives page covers the free tiers instead.
How much does a year of ChatGPT Plus buy elsewhere?
A year of ChatGPT Plus costs $240, and that buys four years of Google AI Plus or Poe Basic. OpenAI doesn't discount a year on the web. Its Plus help article says: "Currently, we do not support annual billing or the option to pay for multiple months in advance for ChatGPT Plus subscriptions." So twelve months of Plus there is 12 times $20. The ChatGPT app's US App Store listing does show a second "ChatGPT Plus" item at $200.00, with no billing period printed. OpenAI's help center doesn't mention it, and our ChatGPT Plus annual plan page sets out what we know.
The chart uses monthly prices. Paying yearly cuts three of them further: Microsoft 365 Personal is $99.99 a year on Microsoft's plan page, Whizi Starter is $131.88, and Claude Pro is $200. A whole year of Microsoft 365 Personal costs less than five months of Plus.
The price on its own doesn't tell you what you give up, though. With Google AI Plus you get Gemini's Flash model, not the Pro model that Google sells at $19.99. Poe Basic reaches the big models, but every message spends points from a daily or monthly grant. A cheaper plan wins only if it still runs the model you were paying Plus for.
Is there a cheaper version of ChatGPT Plus?
Yes. ChatGPT Go is OpenAI's cheaper plan, at $8.00 a month in the US App Store, and it keeps you inside ChatGPT. OpenAI's Go help article says Go gets "unlimited everyday text chats" and higher limits than Free for images, file uploads and data analysis.
But Go doesn't get the top models. OpenAI says "Think uses GPT-5.6 Luna" on Go, and "ChatGPT Go does not include GPT-5.6 Sol." The pricing page reserves "Advanced reasoning models with GPT-6" and expanded deep research for Plus. Go can also carry ads. Its plan card says "This plan may include ads." Like Plus, Go bills monthly only.
Go is the right cut if you hit Free's caps on images and uploads but don't need the reasoning models. It's the wrong one if those models are why you pay. Our ChatGPT Go vs Plus page lists the full gap, and ChatGPT Go vs Google AI Plus compares the two cheapest tiers head to head.
Is Claude Pro cheaper than ChatGPT Plus?
Claude Pro is cheaper than ChatGPT Plus only when you pay for a year. Claude's pricing page lists Pro at $17 a month "with annual subscription discount ($200 billed up front)," and "$20 if billed monthly." If you pay month to month, the two of them cost the same.
If you pay for the year, you save $40 against twelve months of Plus. That saving shrinks if you buy it in the iPhone app. The Claude app's US listing sells a yearly Claude Pro at $214.99, so Apple's route saves $25.01 instead. Is Claude Pro worth it covers whether a whole year of it pays off.
Which cheap plan reaches more than one AI company's models?
Poe Basic is the cheapest plan that reaches models from several labs, at $4.99 a month. Poe's purchases FAQ promises "access to all major models and more starting at $4.99/month," and argues that every big lab "offers a $20/month subscription that only covers their own models." Poe also lets you invite family members into one subscription. Everyone draws on the same points.
Whizi is the other way to get several labs on one bill, and it loses to Poe on price at the bottom. Whizi Starter costs $15.99 a month for ChatGPT Luna, Claude Haiku and Whizi AI, plus Auto, which picks between them. It caps you at 800 messages a month and includes no image generation. ChatGPT Go gives unlimited everyday text chat for half the price. Whizi Pro adds Claude Opus, Claude Sonnet, ChatGPT Sol and Gemini models, with side by side chats. Billed yearly it's $19.99 a month, $239.88 a year, 12 cents less than a year of Plus on the web. That isn't a saving. It's the same money for more than one lab. Monthly, Pro is $29.99, more than Plus. Our ChatGPT Plus alternative page makes the full case for Whizi.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest paid AI subscription?
Google AI Plus and Poe Basic tie at $4.99 a month in the US, as of 25 October 2026. Mistral's Vibe Pro is $5.99 for verified students, normally $14.99. Is Google AI Plus worth it checks what $4.99 gets you in Gemini.
Can you pay for ChatGPT Plus yearly to save money?
Not on the web. OpenAI's help center says it doesn't support annual billing or paying for several months in advance on Go, Plus or Pro, so a year of Plus there costs $240. The US App Store lists a second ChatGPT Plus item at $200.00 with no billing period, and OpenAI doesn't explain it. ChatGPT Plus annual plan compares the labs that do sell a year.
Is the ChatGPT API cheaper than ChatGPT Plus?
For light use it can be, because the API bills per token instead of a flat $20. OpenAI keeps the two apart: its Plus article says "API usage is separate and billed independently." Heavy chat use usually costs more on the API. ChatGPT API vs subscription works out where the line falls.
Is free ChatGPT good enough instead of a cheaper plan?
For text chat, often yes. OpenAI's pricing page lists unlimited text chats with GPT-6 on the Free plan, with limits on uploads, images, voice and deep research. If those limits are what you hit, Go at $8 raises them. Is ChatGPT Plus worth it sets out what Plus adds on top.
