Is Google AI Plus worth it? It matches AI Pro on 6 of 21 rows
Google AI Plus gets AI Pro's answer on 6 of 21 rows, and all 6 are things that are either on or off for you, not allowances. On 9 rows it sits between free and Pro, and on the last 6 it gets only what the free plan gets. We built the list on 18 October 2026 from four of Google's own pages: the US plans page, the Gemini app limits page, the Flow credits page and the Gemini Notebook plans page. A row counts if free Gemini and Google AI Pro get a different answer to it.
Every row, for a personal Google account in the US, as Google's pages stated it on 18 October 2026:
| Row | Free Gemini | Google AI Plus, $4.99 | Google AI Pro, $19.99 | Plus gets |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini app usage limit | standard | 2x standard | 4x standard | between |
| Context window in the Gemini app | 32k tokens | 128k tokens | 1 million tokens | between |
| Models you can pick | Flash-Lite, through Auto | Flash-Lite and Flash; Pro until 13 November 2026 | Gemini 4 Argon, Pro and Flash | between |
| Gemini 4 Argon | no | no | yes | free |
| Video generation in the Gemini app | no | yes | yes | Pro |
| Daily brief | no | yes | yes | Pro |
| Scheduled actions | no | yes | yes | Pro |
| Redo images with Nano Banana Pro | no | yes | yes | Pro |
| Tasks in Gemini | no | no | yes | free |
| Gemini in Google apps | no | Gmail and Vids | Gmail, Docs and Vids | between |
| Cloud storage | 15 GB | 400 GB | 5 TB | between |
| Share the plan with family | no plan to share | up to five others | up to five others | Pro |
| Monthly Flow credits | none (50 a day for everyone) | 200 | 1,000 | between |
| 1080p upscaling in Flow | unavailable | 0 credits | 0 credits | Pro |
| Gemini Notebook notebooks | 100 | 200 | 500 | between |
| Sources per notebook | 50 | 100 | 300 | between |
| Gemini model access in Notebook | Access | Access | Higher | free |
| Early access in Notebook | Standard | Early | Priority | between |
| Notebook watermark removal | no | no | yes | free |
| YouTube Premium Lite | no | no | yes | free |
| Google Home Premium Standard | no | no | yes | free |
Video in the Gemini app, Daily brief, scheduled actions and the Nano Banana Pro redo button all turn on at $4.99, just as they do at $19.99. The 9 rows in between are where Google makes you pay. Plus gets half Pro's Gemini allowance, an eighth of its context window, a fifth of its Flow credits and about 8% of its storage, at a quarter of the price. And Plus loses the bundle outright: no YouTube Premium Lite, no Google Home Premium, no Tasks in Gemini, no Gemini 4 Argon.
What does Google AI Plus include as of October 2026?
Google AI Plus is $4.99 a month in the US, and for that you get 400 GB of storage, 2x the free Gemini app limits and a 128k token context window. It also comes with 200 Flow credits a month, higher Gemini Notebook caps, Gemini in Gmail and Vids, and sharing with up to five family members. Google publishes no message count for any of it. The limits page describes "compute-based usage limits" and says "Your limit refreshes every 5 hours until you reach your weekly limit." Hit the wall on Plus and you can keep chatting on Flash-Lite.
You can't buy your way past that wall, either. Google's AI Plus benefits page says AI credits aren't available for purchase on Plus, so a Plus account that runs dry waits for the refresh or upgrades. Gemini usage limit reached sorts out which of Google's limits stopped you.
The 200 Flow credits shrink fast once you price them. Flow charges 100 credits for one 8 second Veo 3.1 Quality clip, 20 for Fast and 10 for Lite. So a month of Plus credits buys 2 Quality clips, 10 Fast or 20 Lite. Gemini Omni Flash is cheaper at 12 credits for 8 seconds in 720p, about 16 clips. Every Google account also gets 50 Flow credits a day, paid or not. Neither of the two pools rolls over. What Plus adds that free can't get at all is 1080p upscaling, at 0 credits.
NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook, renamed on 16 July 2026, and Plus doubles its free caps: 200 notebooks instead of 100, and 100 sources per notebook instead of 50. Pro gets 500 and 300. Google promises Plus more Audio Overviews than free and prints no number for them.
The 400 GB covers Gmail, Drive and Photos together. Google doubled it from 200 GB on 8 June 2026, the day it cut the US price from $7.99, 9to5Google reported. The same report says Google now labels its $9.99 2 TB storage plan "Google AI Plus" too. Google's benefits page confirms both sizes: "400 GB or 2 TB of storage based on your specific Google AI Plus plan." The 2 TB version adds longer Meet calls and a Google Store discount. Family sharing covers the storage and the AI usage. The plan manager has to be 18 or older, everyone has to live in the same country, and only the manager can change the plan.
Is Google AI Plus losing Gemini Pro?
Yes. Google AI Plus loses the ability to pick Gemini Pro models on 13 November 2026, per Google's email to Plus subscribers as quoted by 9to5Google. Google's model access page set out the change in October without a date for Plus. It says Plus subscribers "should receive an email that explains when these changes will take effect for you."
The email 9to5Google quoted on 14 October 2026, signed by the Google One team, says that from 13 November choosing Pro models in the Gemini app and AI Mode is for "Google AI Pro subscribers and above". Plus keeps Flash-Lite and Flash. Chats you started on Pro carry on with another model. Google's help page says every Plus subscriber gets that email, so check your own inbox for it.
Gemini 4 Argon has skipped Plus from the very start. Google's launch post of 13 October 2026 says to try it "if you're a Google AI Ultra or Pro subscriber." Google's plans pages, read on 18 October, still print "Includes Gemini 4 Argon" beside the AI Plus offer, while the Plus model line names only Flash. We trust the launch post. If Argon or Pro is why you'd pay, $19.99 is the entry price.
Most of the reviews you'll find of AI Plus still describe it as Gemini Pro for $4.99. Those reviews will age fast. That plan ends on 13 November 2026. From then on, AI Plus is a Flash plan with storage attached to it, and that's how you should judge it.
Who should buy Google AI Plus, and who should skip it?
Google AI Plus is the right plan for someone whose Google storage has outgrown 15 GB and who uses Gemini a few times a day. It's the wrong plan for long documents, coding or Google's strongest models. Each verdict below rests on Google's pages as read on 18 October 2026.
| You mostly | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Run out of Gmail, Drive or Photos space, under 400 GB | Buy AI Plus | 400 GB for $4.99, shared with up to five others |
| Need more than 400 GB, not 5 TB | AI Plus with 2 TB | $9.99, labelled AI Plus since June 2026 |
| Chat a few times a day and never hit the free limit | Stay free | Free keeps Deep Research, Canvas and Nano Banana 2 images |
| Hit the free limit most weeks | Buy AI Plus | 2x the free allowance, and Flash instead of mostly Flash-Lite |
| Want Gemini Pro or Gemini 4 Argon | AI Pro | Pro leaves Plus on 13 November 2026; Argon is Pro and Ultra only |
| Paste long PDFs or transcripts | AI Pro | 128k tokens on Plus, 1 million on Pro |
| Make video every week | AI Pro or Ultra | 200 credits is 2 Veo 3.1 Quality clips |
| Code with Antigravity or Jules | AI Pro | Google lists agent rate limits from AI Pro up |
| Study at a college outside the US | Take the free year | AI Plus free for 12 months if redeemed by 31 December 2026 |
The free plan is the one that Plus really has to beat. Google's plans page gives an account with no plan Deep Research, Canvas and Gemini Live, and its limits page adds Nano Banana 2 images. So $4.99 is mostly buying you room: twice the allowance, a context window four times larger and 385 GB more storage. If Gmail isn't warning you about space and Gemini isn't stopping you, there's nothing to buy yet. If you're weighing Plus against OpenAI's cheap plan instead, ChatGPT Go vs Google AI Plus puts the two side by side.
Is Google AI Plus worth it for coding, NotebookLM, images or students?
For coding, no. Google's plans page lists entry rate limits for the agent model in Antigravity and higher Jules limits on AI Pro, and lists neither on Plus. A developer who opens Antigravity even weekly should start at $19.99, and Is Google AI Pro worth it covers what that tier gets.
For NotebookLM, yes, if your notebooks hit 50 sources. Plus doubles that cap to 100 and the notebook count to 200. If you load 300 sources into one notebook, though, you need Pro. Plus also doesn't remove the Notebook watermark. Google keeps that for Pro and above.
For image generation, it's only a little better. You can already make Nano Banana 2 images on the free plan, as Google's limits page shows. Plus gives you a button that redoes an image with Nano Banana Pro, and the plans page promises "More access to Nano Banana in Search" without saying how much. If images are all you want, try the free plan first.
For students outside the US, it's free for a year. Google's 19 August 2026 offer gives AI Plus to eligible students in "over 140 markets where Google AI Plus is available", redeemable until 31 December 2026, with a payment method on file. It then charges $4.99 a month or the local equivalent. US students get AI Pro instead. Canada, Albania, Bolivia, Hong Kong, Macau and Tunisia get neither.
What does Google AI Plus cost, and is there an intro offer?
Google AI Plus costs $4.99 a month in the US, Rs 399 a month in India and $9.99 for the 2 TB version, as of October 2026. Google has run intro offers in both countries. At the 27 January 2026 US launch, when the list price was $7.99, new subscribers got 50% off, $3.99 a month, for two months. At the 10 December 2025 India launch, Google wrote that "New subscribers can get the plan at Rs 199 for the first six months." Neither offer shows on Google's plans pages as of 18 October 2026. Expect list price unless your checkout says otherwise.
India kept Rs 399 when the US price fell in June. Indian subscribers still got the jump to 400 GB, Digit reported on 9 June 2026. Existing US subscribers moved to $4.99 at their next renewal. Google sells its AI plans in more than 140 countries and territories, and the price in each is set locally.
Google doesn't refund part of a month. Its plans page says there are no refunds for partial billing periods, except where the law requires one. So if you're trying Plus to see whether you'll hit its limits, the first month is the test, and you should cancel before it renews if it isn't enough.
When is Google AI Pro the better buy than AI Plus?
Google AI Pro is the better buy at $19.99 when you'd use two of these four: Gemini Pro or Argon, the 1 million token window, more than 2 TB of storage, or 1,000 Flow credits a month. It's four times the price for twice the Plus allowance. A chat-only user pays most of that $15 gap for things they'll never open. That user should stay on Plus.
Pro also wins for one more reader: the person who bought Plus in 2026 for cheap Gemini Pro and still wants it after 13 November. If that's you, there is no cheaper Google plan left for it. Google's own answer is AI Pro.
There's an answer outside Google too, if you also use Claude or GPT. Whizi Pro is $29.99 a month, or $19.99 a month billed yearly, for 2,500 credits. Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview costs 10 credits a message on it, so that's 250 Gemini Pro answers a month beside Claude and GPT on one login (Gemini in Whizi, trial week $1.99). At the monthly rate it's six times what AI Plus costs, with no storage, no Flow credits and no Gemini in Gmail. If 400 GB and Flash cover your week, AI Plus is the better $4.99.
- Check your storage at one.google.com: under 400 GB, AI Plus covers it; between 400 GB and 2 TB, the $9.99 AI Plus 2 TB does
- Look for Google's email with your Pro cutoff date; the emails quoted by 9to5Google say 13 November 2026
- Count your notebook sources: Plus caps a notebook at 100, Pro at 300
- Price your video in Flow credits: 100 per Veo 3.1 Quality clip against 200 a month on Plus
- Student outside the US: redeem the free AI Plus year by 31 December 2026 and note the renewal date
- Never hit the free Gemini limit? Stay free; Deep Research and image generation are on the free plan
Frequently asked questions
Is Google AI Plus the same as Gemini Pro?
No. Google AI Plus is a $4.99 Google plan, and Gemini Pro is a family of models. Plus has offered Pro models at 2x the free limits, but Google's emails to Plus subscribers say Pro selection ends on 13 November 2026, leaving Flash-Lite and Flash. Gemini Pro and Gemini 4 Argon stay on AI Pro at $19.99 and above. When Flash runs out, Gemini usage limit reached explains the wait.
Is Google AI Plus shared with family?
Yes, with up to five other people in your Google family group, who share the storage and the AI usage. Google requires the plan manager to be 18 or older and every member to live in the same country, and only the manager can upgrade or downgrade. Stepping down from AI Pro to Plus works the same way; how to downgrade Google AI Pro has the steps.
Is Google AI Plus free?
Only for college students outside the US. Google gives eligible students in over 140 markets a free year of AI Plus if they redeem it by 31 December 2026, then charges $4.99 a month or the local price. Everyone else pays from the first month, and the free Gemini app needs no plan at all. Gemini student discount lists the excluded countries.
Is Google AI Plus or Pro better?
AI Pro is better for Gemini Pro, Argon, long documents and 5 TB, and AI Plus is better value for storage with light Gemini use. Pro costs $19.99 against $4.99 and gives 4x the free allowance against 2x. Of 21 rows where free Gemini and Pro differ, Plus matches Pro on 6. Is Google AI Pro worth it works out when Pro's 5 TB pays for it.
