Claude pricing: Pro is $20, Max is $100 or $200, and a Team seat now costs $20 too

In brief

Claude costs $0 on Free, $20 a month for Pro or $200 a year, and $100 or $200 a month for Max 5x or Max 20x, as of October 2026. Team seats start at $20 billed annually. Per dollar, Max 20x carries twice the usage of Pro, while Max 5x carries exactly the same.

How much does Claude cost on each plan?

Claude Pro is $20 a month, and Anthropic has cut the Team Standard seat to the same $20 billed annually. The top Google result for "claude pricing" still prints $25. We read each row from Anthropic's pricing page and its help center on 29 October 2026. Prices are in US dollars before tax:

Free gets Sonnet and Haiku but not Opus, and up to 5 projects. Pro adds Opus, full Projects, Research, Claude in Chrome and Claude Code. Max mostly adds room. You get a bigger allowance, higher output limits, priority at busy times, and $100 or $200 a month in API credits. The page closes with a line that matters for anyone outside the US: "Prices shown don't include applicable tax."

Which Claude plan gives the most usage per dollar?

Max 20x gives the most. It costs 10 times as much as Pro and carries 20 times Pro's per-session allowance, according to Anthropic's Max plan article. We divided each plan's published multiple by its price:

Max 20x buys twice as much Claude per dollar as Pro, and Max 5x buys the same
Max 20x$200 a month for 20x Pro2xTeam Standard, annual$20 a seat for 1.25x Pro1.25xTeam Premium, annual$100 a seat for 6.25x Pro1.25xPro, annual$200 a year for 1x Pro1.2xPro, monthly$20 a month for 1x Pro1xMax 5x$100 a month for 5x Pro1xeach square is 5% of one Pro session allowance, bought per $20a month, from Anthropic's published multiples on 29 Oct 2026

Max 5x is five Pro allowances for five Pro prices. You aren't buying a discount. You're buying one account that doesn't run out. Team Standard billed annually costs the same $20 as Pro and carries 1.25x Pro's allowance, per Anthropic's Team plan article. Billed monthly, both Team seats drop back to Pro's rate. One caveat holds for every row. Anthropic publishes these multiples per 5-hour session, and every paid plan also has a weekly limit it doesn't state as a multiple. So the chart compares session allowances, not weeks. How the weekly cap resets is in Claude weekly limit.

How much is Claude Pro per month?

Claude Pro is $20 a month in the US, or $200 a year paid up front. Anthropic's pricing page prints the annual plan as $17 a month, which rounds $16.67 up. The yearly plan saves $40 against 12 monthly payments. Anthropic's Pro plan article adds that pricing comes "in your local currency where supported."

Pro has no free trial at checkout. The closest thing is a 7 day guest pass from a subscriber, explained in Claude Pro free trial. Students pay the same $20, though some universities buy Claude for everyone on campus, as Claude student discount explains. Anthropic doesn't publish a message count for Pro. Its pricing FAQ says only that Pro gives "at least 5x more usage per 5-hour session than Free", with a weekly cap on top. What people actually hit is in Claude Pro limits.

Is it worth $20? It is if you write or code with Claude most days and hit the Free limit. Our Is Claude Pro worth it? page runs through who should skip it.

What does Claude Max cost, and is it cheaper on the web?

Claude Max costs $100 a month for 5x Pro usage or $200 for 20x on claude.com, billed monthly only. There's no annual Max plan. Both tiers include every Pro model and feature. Fable is the one model that changes: Pro reaches it only through paid usage credits, and Max includes it at up to half the weekly limit. Max 5x adds $100 a month in API credits and Max 20x adds $200. The full comparison is in Claude Pro vs Claude Max.

The iPhone app charges more. Apple's US App Store listing showed Max 5x at $124.99 and Max 20x at $249.99 on 29 October 2026. That's 25% above the web price for the same plan. Pro was $20.00 in both places, though the app's annual Pro plan was $214.99 against $200 on the web. If you're on Max, buy it on claude.com. Our Claude Max plan page lists what the extra $80 or $180 buys.

The price in 30 countries, converted to dollars on one date, is in Claude Pro price by country, and Max has its own list in Claude Max price by country.

How much does Claude Team cost per seat?

A Claude Team Standard seat costs $20 a month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, and a Premium seat costs $100 or $125. Team needs two members at least and stops at 150 seats, so the smallest Team bill is $40 a month. Both seat types include Claude Code and Cowork. You can mix them in one team, and the plan adds up to $500 a month in pooled API credits. PromptLayer's September 2025 guide, the top Google result for "claude pricing" on 29 October 2026, still lists Team at $25 and $30. Two Standard seats billed annually cost the same as two monthly Pro plans. Each seat gets 1.25x Pro's session allowance.

Enterprise costs $20 a seat a month, billed annually, plus usage at API rates, with 20 seats minimum. That puts the floor at $400 a month before anyone sends a message. Education has no list price. Anthropic sells it to a university for all its students and staff "at discounted rates", with no price on the page. Nonprofits get discounted Team and Enterprise pricing, per the Pro plan article.

Which Claude plans include Claude Code?

Every paid plan includes Claude Code: Pro, both Max tiers, both Team seats and Enterprise. Free doesn't. Anthropic's pricing FAQ puts it plainly: "Claude Code is included in all paid plans. It shares the same usage limits as the rest of your plan." That shared pool is why heavy coders move to Max. A long terminal session eats the same allowance your chats use, and Anthropic points the heaviest users to pay-as-you-go API credits instead. Each plan's coding limits are in Claude Code usage limit.

What does the Claude API cost?

The Claude API is billed per million tokens, from $0.10 in for Haiku to $10 in for Fable, with no monthly fee. Anthropic's price list on 29 October 2026, for the current models:

Model (as listed)Input per million tokensOutput per million tokens
Fable 5.1$10$50
Opus 5.5$4$20
Sonnet 5.5$2$10
Haiku 5.5 (prompts up to 100K tokens)$0.10$0.50

Batch requests cost 50% less. The API is a separate account from Pro or Max, and a subscription doesn't include it except for Max's and Team's monthly credits. The OpenAI side of the same math is in ChatGPT API vs Claude API pricing, and the cheapest ways to reach Opus are in cheapest way to use Claude Opus.

How can you pay less for Claude?

Pay yearly, stay on Free, or buy Claude inside a bundle. Anthropic won't discount Pro or Max on request. Its Pro plan article says: "We don't offer standard discounted pricing for individual plans (Pro and Max)." So the cheaper routes are structural. The annual plan takes Pro to $16.67 a month. Free costs nothing and still has Sonnet. And two people on Team, billed annually, pay $20 a seat for 1.25x Pro's allowance.

The other route is one app that bundles Claude with ChatGPT and Gemini. Whizi, which publishes this page, puts Claude Opus and Sonnet beside ChatGPT Sol and Gemini on its Pro plan. It costs $29.99 a month, or $19.99 a month billed annually, and the first week is $1.99. Credits per message vary by model and can change. That wins only if you'd otherwise pay for two or three assistants: Claude Pro, ChatGPT Plus and Google AI Pro come to $59.99 a month together, per ChatGPT pricing and Google's plan page. It loses on Claude's own tools. Whizi has no Claude Code or developer API, keeps Fable on its $49.99 Powerhouse plan, and caps chat at 60 messages an hour. For Claude alone, Whizi Pro costs $9.99 more than Claude Pro. The full math is in the cheapest way to use Claude and GPT.

Workflow checklist
  • Start on Free and upgrade only after you hit the 5-hour limit in normal work
  • Buy Pro or Max on claude.com, not in the iPhone app: Max costs 25% more in the US App Store
  • Take the $200 annual Pro plan only if you're sure about 12 months; Max has no annual option
  • Move to Max 20x, not Max 5x, if usage per dollar is the point
  • For two or more people, price Team Standard at $20 a seat before buying separate Pro plans
