How to cancel Claude Pro (web, iPhone, and Android)

Quick answer

Cancel Claude Pro through whoever bills you. On the web, open Settings, then Billing, then Cancel. On iPhone, use iOS Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Claude. On Android, use the Play Store subscriptions page. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal. Your chats stay, and access runs to the period end.

First, find out who is actually charging you

Claude Pro can be billed three different ways, and every "the cancel button does nothing" complaint traces back to looking in the wrong one.

  • Billed by Anthropic if you subscribed on claude.ai with a card. Cancel on the web.
  • Billed by Apple if you subscribed inside the iPhone or iPad app. Apple owns the billing; the website cannot stop it.
  • Billed by Google Play if you subscribed inside the Android app. Same principle: cancel in the Play Store.

Not sure? Check your email receipts or card statement. A receipt from Apple or from Google Play tells you where to go without logging in anywhere. A receipt from Anthropic means the web route.

If your access comes through a Team or Enterprise workspace, there is no personal subscription to cancel; ask your workspace admin to remove your seat.

Cancel on the web (billed by Anthropic)

  1. Sign in at claude.ai with the account that is being charged. If you run more than one account, match the email on your receipt first.
  2. Open Settings from your profile icon.
  3. Choose Billing.
  4. Click Cancel and confirm. You may be shown a downgrade offer on the way out; answering is optional.
  5. Check the panel afterwards: it should show a date your access ends rather than a renewal date.

The same path works in Claude Desktop. Keep the confirmation email until the end date passes; it is your fastest fix if a charge appears later.

Cancel on iPhone or Android

Inside the app, both platforms use the same route: tap your initials in the top right, tap Billing, then Manage subscription, and follow the prompts. The app hands you to Apple or Google, because that is who actually bills you.

If you already deleted the app, the subscription is still renewing, and you cancel it in the store directly:

iPhone or iPad: open iOS Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select Claude, tap Cancel Subscription. If Claude is not listed, check your other Apple Account, or you are billed on the web instead.

Android: open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, choose Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, select Claude, tap Cancel subscription. The same screen exists at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions on a computer.

Deleting the app never cancels anything on either platform. The subscription outlives the app, and the charges keep coming.

The 24-hour rule, and what happens after

Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. Anthropic states this directly: a cancellation inside the final day is not guaranteed to process before the next charge goes through. If your renewal is tomorrow, cancel now, not tonight.

You keep Pro until the period ends. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not cut access off. If you cancel on the 5th and your period runs to the 28th, Pro features work until the 28th.

Your chats stay. Cancelling downgrades the plan and leaves your account, conversations, and projects in place on the free tier. What changes is capacity: lower usage limits and reduced access to the higher-end models. If some chats matter, there is no need to export them out of fear, though exporting anything critical is never a bad habit.

Deleting your account is a different action with different consequences, handled through Anthropic's privacy center, and it is permanent. Do not delete the account as a way of stopping an Apple or Google charge; the billing lives in the store and keeps running.

Refunds, and when one is realistic

The default is the industry default: payments are non-refundable, and cancelling mid-period means keeping access to the end of it rather than getting money back. The real exceptions:

SituationWhere to askRealistic odds
EEA or UK resident within 14 days of first subscribingAnthropic support, citing the withdrawal rightGood; refunds are prorated by use
Duplicate or clearly erroneous chargeAnthropic support with both receiptsGood
Outage or technical issue that blocked use for a sustained periodAnthropic support with datesCase by case

One clear, polite request with the date, the amount, and a receipt attached does better than a long complaint. The wider guide to AI subscription refunds covers the Apple and Google forks in more detail.

Before you go: is cancelling actually the fix?

"I barely used it this month." Then cancel without guilt; the free tier keeps your chats and stays genuinely useful. The is Claude Pro worth it test tells you when it is time to come back.

"I also pay for ChatGPT and use each half the time." That is the most common profile on this page, and cancelling one of the two is a half-fix. Two $20 plans for two half-used products is the exact situation the savings calculator prices in two minutes.

"I want Claude sometimes, just not $20-a-month sometimes." A multi-model workspace is built for that shape: Whizi carries Claude Sonnet and Haiku alongside GPT, Gemini, and the value lines on its Pro plan, at $19.99 a month billed yearly, so occasional Claude use stops needing a dedicated bill. The trade: Anthropic-only features such as Projects and Artifacts stay behind, so if those carry your workflow, keep Claude Pro. Whizi vs Claude Pro is the honest side by side.

Why is cancelling Claude Pro not working?

No cancel option in Billing. You are billed through Apple or Google. Go to the store.

Cancelled but charged again. Check for a second subscription on the other route, and check you cancelled the right account. Web-plus-app-store double subscriptions happen more than you would think.

Charged on renewal day despite cancelling. This is the 24-hour rule biting. Contact support promptly with your cancellation confirmation; same-day cases are usually resolved reasonably.

Cannot log in to cancel. Password reset first; failing that, support can locate the subscription from your receipt details.

Workflow checklist
  • Check whether Anthropic, Apple, or Google is charging you before hunting for the button
  • Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date
  • Confirm the panel shows an end date instead of a renewal date
  • Keep the confirmation email until the end date passes
  • Remember your chats survive the downgrade; deleting the account is separate
  • If you also pay for another AI plan, price the overlap before deciding which to keep
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose my chats if I cancel Claude Pro?

No. Cancelling downgrades you to the free tier and your conversations and projects stay in your account. Deleting your account is a separate, permanent action through Anthropic's privacy center. The full breakdown across ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini is in our guide to what happens to chats when you cancel.

Why was I charged after cancelling Claude Pro?

Usually one of two reasons: the cancellation happened inside the final 24 hours before renewal, or a second subscription exists on another billing route, typically one web and one app store. Check both, then contact whoever billed you with your confirmation email.

Can I get a Claude Pro refund?

By default payments are non-refundable and you keep access to the period you paid for. The real exceptions: EEA and UK residents within 14 days of first subscribing get a prorated refund, duplicate charges get corrected, and sustained technical issues are handled case by case. Apple and Google billing follows those stores' own refund processes.

Does deleting the Claude app cancel the subscription?

No. App store subscriptions keep renewing after the app is gone. Cancel in iOS Settings under Subscriptions or in the Play Store under Payments and subscriptions.

Can I still use Claude models after cancelling?

The free tier keeps limited Claude access. If you want Claude without a dedicated subscription, a multi-model workspace like Whizi includes Claude models alongside GPT and Gemini on one plan below the Pro price.
