How much does Claude Max cost in each country?
Claude Max's price by country doesn't track how rich each country is. Hungary's HUF 59,990 ($185.57) costs more than any euro store. Switzerland goes the other way. Its CHF 100 ($121.28) is the second cheapest of all 39 stores. We opened Claude's iPhone listing in 39 storefronts on 18 October 2026 and converted every price with one exchange rate table from that day.
Apple sells Max in local money, so a buyer in Germany pays €149.99 for Max 5x and €299.99 for Max 20x. At 0.8898 euros to the dollar, that's $168.57 and $337.16. The UK's £119.99 comes to $159.93. Switzerland's CHF 100 has the same digits as the US web price, and only Indonesia's Rp 1,999,000 converts lower.
Some stores bill in US dollars, at three levels. The US, Sri Lanka and Argentina pay $124.99 for Max 5x and $249.99 for Max 20x. Cambodia pays $129.99 and $299.99. Nepal and Kenya pay $149.99 and $299.99, which is 20% above the US store. Not one of the 39 stores sells Max 5x for $100.
Each row is Claude Max bought inside Claude for iOS, read from Apple's listing on 18 October 2026. The dollar columns use the Currency API rates for the same date. The last column divides Max 5x by the same store's Claude Pro monthly price.

Every row except the US and Canada already includes tax. Apple says so in its pricing talk for developers: "Prices advertised to customers in all countries except the U.S. and Canada include taxes." So the UK's £119.99 carries VAT, while Canada's CA$179.99 still gets sales tax added at checkout. We couldn't read Google Play. Its web listing didn't return readable prices on 18 October 2026, so the Android app isn't in the table.
Is Claude Max cheaper on the website or in the App Store?
Claude Max is cheaper on claude.com in every market where we could price both channels: the US, India and Japan, and the UK and Germany too if you're billed in dollars. Anthropic's Max plan help page lists Max 5x at $100 and Max 20x at $200 a month, then adds: "These prices are for web subscriptions only. Mobile pricing may vary depending on your app platform." The pricing page says "Prices shown don't include applicable tax", as of October 2026.
| Market | Claude Max 5x on claude.com | Claude Max 5x in the App Store | Cheaper channel |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $100, plus any sales tax | $124.99, plus any sales tax | claude.com, by $24.99 a month |
| India | Rs 11,999, GST included (press reports, July 2026) | ₹12,900, tax included | claude.com, by ₹901 a month |
| Japan | $100 plus 10% consumption tax, so $110 | ¥20,000 ($126.56), tax included | claude.com, by about $16.56 |
| United Kingdom | $100 plus 20% VAT, so $120, if billed in US dollars | £119.99 ($159.93), VAT included | claude.com, by about $40 |
| Germany | $100 plus 19% VAT, so $119, if billed in US dollars | €149.99 ($168.57), VAT included | claude.com, by about $50 |
The US gap is 25% on both tiers. Apple charges $124.99 for Max 5x and $249.99 for Max 20x, against $100 and $200 on the web. That's $299.88 a year extra on Max 5x. Monthly Claude Pro has no such gap: it's $20 in the US App Store and on claude.com. Annual Pro carries a small one, $214.99 in the app against $200 on the web.
India has its own rupee price on the website. The Free Press Journal reported on 14 July 2026 that "The Max 5x plan is priced at Rs. 11,999 per month" and that Max 20x costs Rs. 23,999, with GST included. Business Today reported the same Rs 11,999 starting price that day. The App Store asks ₹12,900 and ₹24,900.
Japan flips the Pro result. Anthropic has added 10% consumption tax to every plan price since 1 April 2026, per its JCT notice dated 16 March 2026. For Claude Pro, that made the app cheaper in Japan, as Claude Pro price by country shows. For Max it's the other way round: $110 on the web against ¥20,000, or $126.56, in the app.
In the UK, the App Store's £119.99 includes VAT. If claude.com bills you $100 plus the UK's 20% VAT, you pay $120. Germany works the same way: $100 plus 19% VAT is $119, against €149.99 in the app. Anthropic's invoice help says new subscribers get the currency, or currencies, offered in their region. Read the total on the checkout page before you pay.
Moving from the app to the web takes a cancellation. Apple bills a plan bought in the app, so you cancel it in your Apple account first, and how to downgrade Claude Max covers the iPhone and Android routes. A web subscriber who wants a different currency has to "mark your plan to cancel at the end of the current term" and buy again, per the same invoice article.
Max 5x costs more than five Pro plans in every App Store
On claude.com, Claude Max 5x costs exactly five Claude Pro plans: $100 against $20. In all 39 App Store storefronts we read, it costs more than five. The US store sits at 6.25 ($124.99 against $20). Thailand is the steepest at 7.14 (฿4,990 against ฿699), then Pakistan at 7.12 and Turkey and Egypt at 7.00. Switzerland (CHF 100 against CHF 18) and Saudi Arabia are the mildest, at 5.56.
That matters because Anthropic sells Max 5x as five times Pro's usage. On the web you pay the same per unit of usage on both plans. In the app, every unit of Max 5x usage costs more than a unit of Pro. If you're on Pro in the app and keep hitting the limit, moving to Max on the web is the cheaper step up. Is Claude Max worth it works out who needs that step at all.
Max 20x isn't always double Max 5x either. On the web it's exactly two times, $200 against $100. Hungary asks HUF 99,990 against HUF 59,990, and Poland asks 999.99 zł against 599.99 zł. That's 1.67 times in both, so four times the usage costs 67% more. There, 20x is the bargain. In both stores a month of Max 20x costs the same as a year of Claude Pro (999.99 zł, HUF 99,990). The UK charges 2.08 times (£249.99 against £119.99). South Korea charges 2.26 times (₩449,000 against ₩199,000), and Cambodia 2.31 times ($299.99 against $129.99).
Max is monthly only in both channels. Anthropic's help page says "The Max plan is currently available as a monthly subscription only", and none of the 39 App Store listings showed an annual Max plan on 18 October 2026.
Does Claude Max's API credit change by country?
No. Claude Max includes $100 a month of Claude API credit on Max 5x and $200 on Max 20x, in US dollars, wherever you bought the plan. Anthropic's API credits page says "Plans purchased through Claude for iOS or Claude for Android are eligible", and you claim the credit on claude.ai in a browser.
So the credit is worth the same $100 to a buyer who paid $110.73 in Indonesia and to one who paid $188.97 in Colombia, though the Colombian paid $78.24 more for the same plan and allowance. The credit covers the Claude API, Managed Agents and the Agent SDK. It doesn't cover Claude Code or extra usage in the Claude apps, per the same page.
Which countries can't buy Claude Max?
China, Russia and Hong Kong can't buy Claude Max. None of the three is on Anthropic's supported regions list, and Claude's App Store page returned a not-found error in all three storefronts on 18 October 2026. Every country in the table is on the list.
Bangladesh is different. It's on the list but has no App Store price. Apple's lookup API returned no Bangladesh listing for Claude on 18 October 2026, so a buyer there pays the web price of $100 or $200 before tax. The rules for buying from outside the list are in Claude not available in your country.
What's the cheapest way to pay for Claude Max where you live?
For most buyers it's claude.com, monthly, with a card that bills from your own country. The web price is $100 or $200 plus your local tax, and the App Store charged more than that in every store we could compare. The exceptions are buyers whose cards the website declines. They can use the app. It costs more, but Apple bills through your Apple account, so the card or wallet you already use with Apple pays for it at the price in the table.
If you mostly chat with Claude Opus and don't run Claude Code, Max may be more plan than you need. Whizi Powerhouse costs $49.99 a month for 10,000 credits, and Claude Opus costs 20 credits a message, so that's 500 Opus messages a month with no five hour window. Every Whizi plan does cap chat at 60 messages an hour. Whizi Pro at $29.99 gives 125. It loses on volume, and each message caps input at 40,000 tokens. Claude Max is still the plan for long agent sessions.

- Claim the $100 or $200 API credit on claude.ai in a browser, whichever store you used
