Google AI Pro vs Ultra: the $199.99 tier gives 20x the limits for 10x the price, the $99.99 tier 5x for 5x

In brief

Google AI Pro is $19.99 a month and Google AI Ultra is $99.99 for 5x Pro's Gemini limits or $199.99 for 20x, in the US as of October 2026. Only the $199.99 tier lowers the price of usage, to $10 per Pro-sized limit. Ultra adds 20 or 30 TB of storage, full YouTube Premium and, on 20x, Project Genie.

What is the difference between Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra?

Google AI Ultra is the same Gemini app as Google AI Pro with 5x or 20x the usage, 4x to 6x the storage and a handful of extras Pro doesn't get. Google sells Pro at $19.99 a month in the US and Ultra in two tiers, $99.99 and $199.99. Deep Think was the one chat feature only Ultra had, and it's on the way out. Google's Deep Think help page now says "Deep Think is being replaced by Gemini 4 Argon," a model AI Pro already has.

We put this table together on 25 October 2026 from five of Google's own pages. They are the US subscriptions page, the Google AI plans page, the Gemini Apps limits page, the Gemini Notebook upgrade page and the Ultra benefits page. Google doesn't print a message count for any of the rows, so each usage line is a multiple of some other plan. Once Deep Think goes, there's nothing on the chat side that you can only get on Ultra.

How much does Google AI Ultra cost compared with Pro?

Google AI Ultra costs 5x AI Pro for the $99.99 tier and 10x for the $199.99 tier in the US, as of October 2026. Since the tiers give 5x and 20x Pro's Gemini limits, only the top tier makes usage cheaper. Each Pro-sized limit costs $19.99 on Pro, $20.00 on Ultra 5x and $10.00 on Ultra 20x.

That changes by country. We read Google's subscriptions page for six markets on 25 October 2026, and Google prices the $99.99 tier well below 5x Pro in most of them:

Ultra 5x costs 3.3x to 5.2x AI Pro by country. Ultra 20x costs 10x

India is where Ultra 5x looks best. At ₹6,500, it buys you Pro's limit five times over, and each one costs a third less than it does on Pro itself. The UK, Germany and Australia land in between. Canada is the one market where the tier that's $99.99 in the US costs more per limit than Pro does. The India, UK, Germany, Canada and Australia pages carry each local price. Google says Ultra is sold "in more than 150 countries", and the cheapest country for AI subscriptions compares other vendors the same way.

Ultra started higher. Google launched it on 20 May 2025 at $249.99 a month, and its 19 May 2026 post added the $100 tier and said "We're also reducing the monthly price of our top-tier AI Ultra plan from $250 to $200." Pages that still quote $249.99 are pricing a plan Google stopped selling.

What are the Google AI Pro vs Ultra limits in the Gemini app?

Google AI Pro gets 4x the free Gemini limit, and Ultra gets 5x or 20x Pro's, so measured from the free tier Ultra 5x is 20x and Ultra 20x is 80x. Those are Google's only numbers. Its limits page gives no message count, and every paid plan refreshes the same way: "Your limit refreshes every 5 hours until you reach your weekly limit."

The limits are compute based, so a long chat or a heavy feature burns through any plan faster. Google says media generation and Deep Research "will consume more of your usage." Both plans share the 1 million token context window, so Ultra doesn't read a longer file, it just reads more of them before the wall. Once you hit it, Gemini drops you to Flash-Lite on either plan. Google AI Pro limits lists every Pro cap, and Gemini usage limit reached shows which limit stopped you.

Does Google AI Ultra still include Deep Think, and which models does each plan get?

Google AI Ultra still lists Deep Think, but Google is replacing it with Gemini 4 Argon, which both plans get. The Deep Think help page keeps it for "a Google AI Ultra subscriber" and warns "We may discontinue or suspend Deep Think at any time without prior notice." The US subscriptions page no longer mentions Deep Think on either plan, as read on 25 October 2026.

Gemini 4 Argon reached both plans on 13 October 2026. Google's launch post says "Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can now access Gemini 4 Argon." The difference is how much of it. Pro's plan card reads "Access to Gemini 4 Argon", and Ultra's reads "Highest access to Gemini 4 Argon", with the same wording for the Pro and Flash models. Google One splits Ultra's Argon access into Higher on the $99.99 tier and Highest on the $199.99 tier.

So the model list is identical. Ultra gives you more turns on the same models, not a smarter one. If Pro's answers aren't good enough, Ultra won't fix that. It only helps when Pro's limit is what stops you.

Is Google AI Pro or Ultra better for Antigravity and coding?

Google AI Ultra is the coding plan if you live in Antigravity, because Google built the $99.99 tier around it. The I/O 2026 post gives the $100 plan "A 5X higher usage limit in the Gemini app and Google Antigravity than our Pro plan," and calls it "specifically tailored for developers, technical leads, knowledge workers and advanced creators." Pro gets "Entry rate limits" in Antigravity. Ultra 5x gets Higher and Ultra 20x gets Highest.

The developer extras grow faster than Antigravity does. Google One lists $10 a month of Google Cloud credits on Pro, $40 on Ultra 5x and $100 on Ultra 20x. On top of that, you get 200, 1,000 or 2,000 Colab compute units a month. Jules task limits go from Expanded on Pro to Higher on Ultra 5x and Highest on Ultra 20x. Google's Ultra benefits page says you "can't share the Google Developer Program premium benefit" with family members, and Colab goes to the plan manager only.

Pro is enough for a developer who codes in Claude Code, Cursor or Codex and uses Gemini on the side. Ultra's 5x multiplies Gemini and Antigravity only. Google AI Pro vs ChatGPT Plus sets Pro against the other $20 coding plan.

How many Flow credits and Veo clips do Pro and Ultra get?

Google AI Pro gets 1,000 Flow credits a month, Ultra 5x gets 10,000 and Ultra 20x gets 25,000, and every account adds 50 a day. Google's Flow credits page also charges Ultra half price on two Veo models. A Veo 3.1 Lite clip costs Ultra 5 credits against 10, and a Fast clip 10 against 20. A Quality clip is 100 credits on every plan.

Three of the creative features are only on Ultra. It gets Veo 3.1 Lite at lower priority for 0 credits and 4K upscaling for 50 credits, and the $199.99 tier adds Project Genie, which is Google's Genie 3 world model. If you're a family member on someone else's Ultra plan, you don't get the 0 credit Lite option, which Google marks as "Not available" to you. None of the credits carry over: "Unused monthly Google Flow credits do not roll over to the next month." Is Google AI Ultra worth it works out what each Veo clip costs on each tier.

What do NotebookLM, storage and YouTube Premium add on Ultra?

Ultra adds more sources per notebook, four or six times Pro's storage and the full YouTube Premium plan. NotebookLM is now called Gemini Notebook. Its upgrade page gives Pro and both Ultra tiers the same 500 notebooks, with 300 sources each on Pro, 500 on Ultra 5x and 600 on Ultra 20x. It prints no Audio Overview count for any plan.

Storage goes from 5 TB on Pro to 20 TB or 30 TB on Ultra, and it's shared across Gmail, Drive and Photos. YouTube moves up from Premium Lite, which Google describes as "Most videos ad-free, offline, and in the background", to the individual Premium plan, which is "YouTube ad-free, offline, and in the background." The step up is from most videos to all of them. If you already pay for YouTube, check first: the Lite plan in the bundle "won't activate if you already have an equivalent" one. Home Premium moves from Standard, with "30 days of event history", to Advanced, with "24/7 video history".

You can share both plans with up to five other people, and both of them include Google Health Premium. Gemini Agent is only on Ultra, and only in the US. Tasks in Gemini is on both, though the Ultra benefits page keeps it out of the EU and the UK.

Is there a student discount on Google AI Pro or Ultra?

Google gives US college students a free year of Google AI Pro, and it offers no student price on Ultra. The student page says "Claim your free 1-year Google AI Pro student plan today," for students 18 and over who redeem by 31 December 2026. After the year, "Google AI Pro will automatically charge $19.99/month." Gemini student discount covers eligibility outside the US.

Ultra has no public trial in the US either. Google's 2025 launch offer was 50% off for three months on the $249.99 plan. The October 2026 US page shows no intro price for either Ultra tier.

Should you pick Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra?

Pick Google AI Pro unless you hit its Gemini wall every week, run out of Flow credits, or need more than 5 TB. Ultra 5x covers any one of those. Pay for Ultra 20x only when you'd outrun Ultra 5x, because that's where the $10 per Pro-sized limit kicks in.

Pick Google AI Pro ($19.99) ifPick Ultra 5x ($99.99) ifPick Ultra 20x ($199.99) if
You hit the Gemini limit less than once a weekYou hit Pro's weekly limit most weeksYou'd hit Ultra 5x's limit, since 20x costs $10 per Pro-sized limit
You make under about 50 Fast Veo clips a monthYou make Veo video weekly (10,000 credits, half price clips)You use more than 10,000 Flow credits a month
Your files fit in 5 TBYou need 20 TBYou need 30 TB
You code mainly outside AntigravityAntigravity is your daily editorYou run Antigravity agents all day
Where Pro loses: Entry Antigravity limits and no Project GenieWhere Ultra 5x loses: in the US it costs $20.00 per Pro-sized limit, the same as ProWhere Ultra 20x loses: $199.99 a month for chat you could split across vendors

If you live in India or the UK, Ultra 5x is a better deal than it is in the US, since Google prices it there at 3.3x and 4.2x Pro. If you're on Pro and want to see whether you need more, look at how often the limit message appears. Twice in a month isn't a reason to pay $80 more.

If what you want from Ultra is more Gemini Pro answers, Whizi is the cheaper route for chat alone. Whizi Pro costs $29.99 a month with 2,500 credits, and Gemini Pro costs 10 credits a message there, so that's 250 Gemini Pro answers beside Claude and GPT on one login (first week $1.99). Whizi loses on everything else Google bundles. It has no Gemini 4 Argon as of October 2026, no Flow credits, no storage and no YouTube. The Gemini in Whizi docs list each model's credit cost.

Workflow checklist
  • Count how often Gemini's limit message appears on Pro: weekly means Ultra 5x, rarely means stay
  • Check your local price, because Ultra 5x costs 3.3x Pro in India and 5.2x in Canada
  • Check your storage at one.google.com: over 5 TB is the simplest case for Ultra
  • Price your video in Flow credits: 1,000 a month on Pro, 10,000 on Ultra 5x, 100 per Veo 3.1 Quality clip
  • Don't buy Ultra for Deep Think, since Google is replacing it with Gemini 4 Argon, which Pro has
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Gemini Advanced the same as Google AI Pro?

Yes. Gemini Advanced came with the Google One AI Premium plan, and Google renamed that plan on 20 May 2025, writing "Our existing AI Premium plan, now called Google AI Pro, is also getting better." Ultra launched the same day. As of October 2026, Google AI Pro costs $19.99 a month in the US. Is Google AI Pro worth it covers the plan on its own.

Does Google AI Pro get Gemini 4 Argon, or only Ultra?

Both plans get Gemini 4 Argon. Google opened it to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers on 13 October 2026, and the $4.99 Google AI Plus card now reads "Includes Gemini 4 Argon" too. Ultra gets more of it: its plan card says "Highest access to Gemini 4 Argon" against "Access" on Pro. Google AI Plus vs Google AI Pro covers the plan below.

Is Google AI Ultra available outside the US?

Yes, Google says it sells Ultra in more than 150 countries, but some of what you pay for is only in the US. As of October 2026, Google's AI plans page marks Gemini Agent "US only, English only", and the Ultra benefits page lists Dreambeans, Playground, Google TV Create Hub and Gemini in Google Earth as US only. You can use Chrome auto browse only in India and the US. Tasks in Gemini isn't offered in the EU or the UK.

Can I move from Google AI Ultra back to Pro?

Yes. In Google One, choose Manage membership, then Change membership plan, and pick Pro under "Downgrade options". Google's plan change page says "The downgrade takes effect at the start of your next billing cycle." Storage then drops from 20 or 30 TB to 5 TB, so move anything over 5 TB first. How to downgrade Google AI Pro covers the storage rules, and how to cancel Google AI Pro covers stopping entirely.
