Which country is cheapest for each AI subscription?
The Philippines is the cheapest country for ChatGPT Plus, at ₱999 a month, or $15.86. Pakistan is the cheapest for Claude Pro and Perplexity Pro, at Rs 4,900 ($17.70) each. Indonesia wins Google AI Pro at Rp 309,000 ($17.12). Turkey wins SuperGrok at ₺1,299.99 ($26.30). We read all five plans in 85 App Store storefronts on 18 October 2026, and we converted every price with the same exchange rate table, so a row for one plan can be set against a row for any other.
Each price is the monthly plan in Apple's App Store on 18 October 2026, with tax included. The dollar column uses one Currency API rate table from the same day.

Colombia asks COP 99,900 for ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro and Perplexity Pro alike. That's $31.47, or 57% over the US price of Plus. The cheap end sits much closer to the US. No store sold ChatGPT Plus for less than $15.86, and only 9 of 80 came in under $19.99. Canada lists Perplexity Pro at CA$25 ($17.68), but that's before sales tax, so Pakistan stays the cheapest price you'd actually pay.
Which country is cheapest for all five plans together?
Egypt is the cheapest App Store for all five plans together, at $101.77 a month against $109.98 in the US before sales tax. Pakistan trails by 9 cents. That's a tie in practice. Colombia is the dearest at $160.21, so the same five subscriptions cost 57% more there than in Egypt. Only 8 of the 80 stores that sell all five charge less than the US. Ten more bill the exact US prices in US dollars, and 61 charge more.
All prices are monthly App Store prices read on 18 October 2026, in US dollars, ranked by the five together. Stores with identical prices share a row. The 15 euro stores are Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.

Google AI Pro is often the cheapest of the big three. It cost you less than both ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro in 45 of the 80 stores. ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro cost the same, or one cent apart, in 39 stores. Claude Pro is the cheaper of the two in 20 of the 21 euro stores (€22 against €22.99), Switzerland and Nigeria. ChatGPT Plus is cheaper in 19, including the Philippines, Brazil, Vietnam and Bulgaria, where it's €19.99.
How much do you save by buying in a cheaper country?
You save very little. The best single saving in the index is $4.13 a month, on ChatGPT Plus in the Philippines, which is 21% off the US price. For all five plans, Egypt saves 7%. That's all. If you live in Europe, the UK or Australia, your own store already charges more than the US, and the gap comes mostly from tax.
Apple says so in its pricing talk for developers: "Prices advertised to customers in all countries except the U.S. and Canada include taxes." So every row here carries VAT or GST except the US and Canada. The UK's £19.99 for Plus already includes VAT. Canada's CA$24.99 ($17.67) gets sales tax added at checkout.
Older lists still name Turkey or Nigeria as the cheap place to buy ChatGPT Plus. They aren't any more. On 18 October 2026 Turkey charged ₺999.99 ($20.23) and Nigeria ₦31,500 ($23.65). Turkey is still the cheapest store for SuperGrok, though.
If you're pricing countries because you pay for two of these plans, check the pair against one bill. ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro together cost at least $35.40 in every store we read, with Pakistan the lowest. Whizi Pro costs $29.99 a month and puts Claude Opus, ChatGPT Sol, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity's Sonar Pro in one app, on 2,500 credits (pricing). It doesn't include each vendor's own apps and extras. If you only use one assistant, one $20 plan in your own store is cheaper.
Can a VPN get you another country's App Store price?
No. A VPN changes your IP address, but the App Store charges the price of your Apple Account's country, and moving that account has rules. Apple's country change page tells you to "cancel any subscriptions that block a country or region change, then wait until the end of the subscription period." It adds: "You might need to enter a valid payment method for your new country or region."
Google Play is stricter. Its country help page says "you must be in that location and have a payment method from the new country or region." You can then change only once every 90 days. Apple's Media Services terms tie the store to your "country or territory of residence".
OpenAI and Anthropic draw the same line at their own checkouts. OpenAI's supported countries page warns that accessing its services outside the listed countries "may result in your account being blocked or suspended." OpenAI's terms of use ask for "complete and accurate billing information, including a valid payment method." Anthropic's consumer terms say the same: "you must provide complete and accurate billing information."
So the price you can pay is the price of the country you live in and pay from. If the real problem is a card your bank keeps declining, paying for AI when your card is declined covers the store and local payment routes.
Is the website cheaper than the App Store?
Sometimes it is, and tax and currency explain it. OpenAI's multi-currency billing page covers web plans billed in local currencies. For app plans, it says "your subscription is managed by the Apple App Store or Google Play and charges will appear in your local currency." Anthropic's Pro plan page says Claude Pro "is available for $20 per month (US), with pricing in your local currency where supported."

Which countries can't buy these plans in the App Store?
China's App Store sells none of the five. Every listing returned not found on 18 October 2026. Russia sells only Perplexity Pro, at 1,790 ₽ ($21.28). Hong Kong has no ChatGPT or Claude listing, but it sells Google AI Pro (HK$158), Perplexity Pro (HK$148) and SuperGrok (HK$228). Macao lists Google AI Pro and Perplexity Pro in US dollars, and nothing else.
Bangladesh has no Apple storefront at all, so its link opens the US listing. Claude's country list leaves out China, Russia and Hong Kong. ChatGPT not available in your country explains the message you'll see where OpenAI doesn't operate.
How was this index built?
We opened the App Store page of each app in 85 storefronts on 18 October 2026 and read its In-App Purchases list. The apps are ChatGPT, Claude, Google Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, starting from the US ChatGPT listing. Apple names each item but not its billing period. So we took the lower ChatGPT Plus item (the other is the yearly plan), "Claude Pro - Monthly", the monthly "Google AI Pro (5 TB)" item and the lower SuperGrok item.
Perplexity is the odd one. In nine stores, including the Philippines and Brazil, it lists two monthly Pro prices. We used the one that's a tenth of Perplexity Max, its usual ratio. Turkey's Gemini listing showed a new second Google AI Pro item at ₺539.99. We couldn't tell who gets it, so the index keeps ₺869.99.
Every dollar figure uses the Currency API rates for 18 October 2026. Before publishing, we checked the index against the 196 local prices in our five price-by-country tables from 11 and 12 October. None had changed. Vendors can change a store price any day, so check your own store before you pay.
