Claude statistics 2026: a $47 billion run rate by May, and $65 billion reported by July

In brief

The top Claude statistic as of October 2026 is Anthropic's run rate: more than $47 billion in May, Anthropic said, up from about $9 billion at the end of 2025. That is about $257 million of annualized revenue added a day, nearly 12 times the 2025 pace. Reuters later reported over $65 billion by July, citing an unnamed source.

Don't read run rate as money in the bank. A run rate takes a recent stretch of revenue and scales it up to a full year. Anthropic booked nearly $4.6 billion in 2025, per the draft prospectus Reuters reviewed, while its run rate at the end of that year was about $9 billion. When sales grow this fast, the run rate stays well ahead of the books. Bloomberg's preliminary figure for the second quarter of 2026, more than $11.5 billion, works out to $46 billion over a full year, close to the $47 billion run rate Anthropic gave in May.

Blue dots are Anthropic's own figures. The two orange ones came from unnamed sources, and Anthropic hasn't confirmed them: Reuters' $65 billion for the end of July, and the $100 billion pace The New York Times reported in September.

How fast is Anthropic's revenue growing?

Anthropic added about $257 million of annualized revenue a day between the end of 2025 and late May 2026, using only its own figures. In 2025 it added about $22 million a day. So the 2026 pace is nearly 12 times the 2025 pace. With Reuters' unconfirmed $65 billion for the end of July, it's about $264 million a day, 12 times.

The fastest stretch Anthropic has confirmed ran from April to late May 2026, at least $327 million a day. CEO Dario Amodei told developers in May that the company had planned for 10x growth a year. "And yet we saw 80x," he said (VentureBeat, 8 May 2026).

Anthropic doesn't say on which day it crossed each line. Its 2025 points read "beginning of 2025" and "by August 2025", so we pinned them to 1 January and to the 2 September post. Every per day figure is an average between two dates. The last two rows come from unnamed sources. Anthropic hasn't confirmed them. If the New York Times figure holds, the pace more than doubled again after July.

Anthropic opened Claude to businesses on 14 March 2023, so it got from launch to a $47 billion run rate in about 38 months. Reuters also reported in August that Anthropic projects 2028 revenue of roughly $190 billion to $200 billion. For scale, Axios reported on 29 September that OpenAI was on pace for almost $70 billion, also from unnamed sources. Our ChatGPT statistics have OpenAI's full history.

Is Anthropic profitable?

Not for a full year yet. Anthropic lost more than $8 billion on an operating basis in 2025, excluding writedowns, on revenue of nearly $4.6 billion, according to the draft IPO prospectus Reuters reviewed and reported on 29 September 2026. Its net loss was $42 billion. About $34 billion of that was an accounting charge tied to financing that could convert into shares. This year looks different. Bloomberg reported on 14 August 2026, from documents it had seen, that Anthropic booked more than $11.5 billion of revenue in the second quarter and posted positive adjusted operating income. The figures are preliminary, and Anthropic hasn't confirmed them.

Its revenue grew twelvefold in 2025, Reuters reported. It spent $7.33 billion on compute and infrastructure, which was three times the 2024 bill. Two customers brought in nearly a quarter of 2025 revenue, and Anthropic held $20.28 billion in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments on 31 December. Anthropic hasn't confirmed these figures, because the prospectus isn't public yet.

That's nearly a sixteenfold rise in valuation in under 15 months. Anthropic confidentially submitted a draft S-1 to the SEC on 1 June 2026. When we searched SEC EDGAR on 7 October 2026, no public Anthropic S-1 had been filed. Reuters reported on 29 September that the listing will likely come after the US midterm elections in November.

How many people use Claude?

Anthropic doesn't publish a monthly or weekly user count for Claude. So every user number comes from a measurement firm or a survey, and each one measures something different.

Similarweb counts visits, not people, and one person can make many of them. Its data shows that claude.ai went from 203 million visits in February 2026 to 824 million in April. Similarweb says the jump came with new product launches, a Super Bowl campaign and heavy news coverage, and the traffic didn't fall back afterwards. There are two Similarweb readings for August because they cover different sets of sites. One is 9.6% of the visits to the major chatbots, in its September report. The other is 9.3% of all generative AI website traffic, in its monthly post on X. A year before, Claude had 1.9% on the X tracker.

Anthropic's own numbers from early March point the same way. A spokesperson told TechCrunch on 6 March 2026 that daily active users had more than tripled since the start of the year and that paid subscribers had doubled. Claude was getting more than 1 million sign-ups a day, and it was the No. 1 app in the US App Store. Downloads of the Claude app peaked at about 20 million worldwide in April 2026 and slipped to 18 million in May, per Appfigures.

Sensor Tower's State of AI 2026 found Claude's True Audience, its count of unique users across apps and the web, up 452% year on year in May 2026. Claude's US share of that audience rose from 4.4% to nearly 14% over the same year. The 245 million figure is from the full report, as MediaNama reported it on 17 June 2026. Sensor Tower's public pages don't show it.

In the US, 6% of adults say they use Claude, per Pew Research Center's survey of 17 to 23 February 2026. That's 10% of 18 to 29 year olds and 1% of people 65 and older. For ChatGPT, it's 44% of all adults.

People who try Claude now stay longer. In Similarweb's cohort data, 44.8% of people who started in February 2026 were still active six months later, against 25.8% for the January 2025 group. ChatGPT's figure is 59%. The share of Claude users who also used ChatGPT in the same month fell from 78% to 61%. And the page Claude shows when someone hits a usage limit got 52 million visits in August 2026.

The "18.9 million monthly users" figure at the top of many Claude statistics pages has no primary source we could find, so it isn't here. For Claude's share against every other chatbot, see AI chatbot market share and Gemini statistics.

How many businesses use Claude?

More than 300,000 businesses used Claude when Anthropic last gave a total, in September 2025. The big spenders are the ones that have grown fastest since then. Two years before February 2026, only a dozen customers spent over $1 million a year with Anthropic. By February there were more than 500 of them, and by 6 April 2026 there were over 1,000, so the count doubled in under two months.

Customers spending over $100,000 a year grew 7x in the year to February 2026, after growing nearly 7x in the year to September 2025. Eight of the Fortune 10 are Claude customers, Anthropic said in February. Its CFO, Krishna Rao, said then that "Claude is increasingly becoming critical to how businesses work."

Anthropic took 40% of enterprise LLM spend in 2025, ahead of OpenAI at 27% and Google at 21%, per Menlo Ventures. Menlo surveyed about 500 US enterprise decision makers from 7 to 25 November 2025. In 2023, OpenAI had 50% of that spend and Anthropic had 12%. For coding, Menlo put Anthropic's share at 54%. Menlo invests in Anthropic, and its report says so.

The revenue is concentrated, though. Reuters reported that two customers made up nearly a quarter of Anthropic's 2025 revenue. Partners are growing as well. Anthropic said on 2 October 2026 that people at 46,000 firms had earned more than 175,000 Claude certifications through its partner network.

How big is Claude Code?

Claude Code was earning more than $2.5 billion in run-rate revenue in February 2026, five times the $500 million Anthropic reported in September 2025. Anthropic said the February figure had more than doubled since 1 January, and weekly active users had doubled too.

Business subscriptions to Claude Code quadrupled between 1 January and 12 February 2026, and enterprise use made up over half of its revenue. Anthropic also cited an outside analysis that put Claude Code behind 4% of all public GitHub commits worldwide. That was double the share a month earlier.

What do people use Claude for?

Coding is still the largest use of Claude, but personal use is growing faster. In the sample that Anthropic's Economic Index took from 5 to 12 February 2026, tasks tied to computer and maths jobs, which are mostly coding, made up 35% of the conversations on Claude.ai. The share of personal conversations rose from 35% to 42% between November 2025 and February 2026. Over the same months, coursework fell from 19% to 12%.

Most people work with Claude as a partner. In November 2025, 52% of Claude.ai conversations were collaborative and 45% were automated, per the January 2026 report. Businesses on the API automate far more. In August 2025, 77% of business API uses followed automation patterns, Anthropic found. Claude.ai conversations also succeeded more often than API tasks in November, 67% against 49%.

Nearly every chat ends in something you can use. Anthropic's classifier marked 93% of the conversations it sampled from 10 April to 10 June 2026 as producing an artifact, per its June 2026 report. Personal use climbs from around 35% of chat conversations on weekdays to just under 50% at the weekend. People ask it for news at 7 a.m. local time. And they ask for recipes 2.3 times as often as average at 6 p.m.

India leans on Claude for study and code. 12% of Claude.ai use in India is educational and nearly half is computer and maths work, Anthropic said in February 2026. You'll find more on students and teachers in AI in education statistics.

Which countries use Claude the most?

The United States accounts for the most Claude use, and India is second. In Anthropic's September 2025 Economic Index, the US had 21.6% of all Claude.ai usage, India 7.2% and Brazil 3.7%. By the January 2026 report, the US, India, Japan, the UK and South Korea led overall use. Anthropic calls India its second largest market for Claude.ai.

Per person, Israel leads. It topped Anthropic's per capita AI Usage Index at 7 in the September 2025 report, ahead of Singapore at 4.57 and Australia at 4.10. The US scored 3.62. A score above 1 means a country uses Claude more than its population alone would predict.

Website traffic tells a similar story. In September 2026, the US sent 25.09% of desktop visits to claude.ai, followed by India (10.23%), the UK (4.11%), France (3.62%) and Japan (3.38%), per Similarweb. Its visitors were 56.74% male, and 25 to 34 year olds were the largest group at 30.55%. Similarweb ranks claude.ai 38th in the world and third among AI chatbot sites in the US.

On phones, US users do most of the paying. Claude earned an estimated $104 million in US gross app revenue from January to May 2026, per Appfigures. South Korea, Japan, Germany and the UK came next, at about $11 million to $14 million each.

What does Claude cost in October 2026?

Claude Pro costs $20 a month in the US, or $17 a month billed yearly, and Max costs $100 or $200, per Anthropic's pricing page and Max plan help page as of 7 October 2026. Developers pay $1 to $50 per million tokens, depending on the model.

ModelInput per million tokensOutput per million tokensCache read per million
Claude Fable 5.1$10$50$0.25
Claude Opus 5.5$4$20$0.20
Claude Sonnet 5.5$2$10$0.20
Claude Haiku 4.5$1$5$0.10

When Anthropic released Opus 5.5 on 22 September 2026, it set the input and output prices 20% below those of Opus 5, and it made cache reads 60% cheaper. You can see every vendor's rates side by side in LLM API pricing statistics, and the plan prices for each chatbot are in AI subscription statistics.

People are spending more in the app, too. Claude was the second biggest chatbot app by worldwide consumer spend in April 2026, at an estimated $76 million after store fees, behind ChatGPT's $301 million, Appfigures found. In May it set a record of about $92 million before store fees, roughly 26 times its May 2025 figure. Sensor Tower says Claude's US mobile revenue per user rose from under $0.50 in September 2025 to $2.76 in May 2026.

How well does Claude answer in other languages?

Claude Opus 5.5 scored 60.7 out of 100 on Whizi's Multilingual LLM Bench, fourth of the 17 models we tested. We finished the run on 2 October 2026. The test is 150 questions in 30 languages about local knowledge, idioms and grammar. We graded each answer against a sourced key, and we ran all of the models at low reasoning.

RankModelScore out of 100What one full run cost us
1GPT-6 Astra70.7$0.75
2Gemini 3.1 Pro67.3$1.34
3GPT-6 Sol63.3$0.16
4Claude Opus 5.560.7$0.47
6Claude Fable 5.150.0$0.66
13Claude Sonnet 523.3$0.30

Anthropic's most expensive model didn't win. Fable 5.1 scored 10.7 points below Opus 5.5, and it cost us 40% more to run. Opus 5.5 did best on grammar, scripts and dates, where it scored 83.3. On idioms it tied Gemini 3.1 Pro at 45, which was just behind GPT-6 Astra at 48.3. Its weak spot was local knowledge, where it got 65 to Astra's 83.3.

Read the ranks with care. The margin of error on Opus 5.5's score is plus or minus 7.7 points, so its range overlaps those of every model from first to sixth place, Fable 5.1 included. Each language has only 5 questions, which is too few to rank models language by language. For how often Claude models make things up, see AI hallucination statistics.

Where does each Claude number come from?

We opened every figure at its primary source on 7 October 2026. Those are Anthropic's posts and research reports, Similarweb, Sensor Tower, Appfigures, Pew Research Center and Menlo Ventures. Where a source spoke to a reporter, or a reporter saw a document we can't, we name the outlet: Reuters, Axios, TechCrunch, VentureBeat or MediaNama. Every number, its wording at the source and the URL are in our research log.

We left out what we couldn't trace. That cut the 18.9 million monthly users figure, a YipitData estimate of a $79.5 billion run rate in July, claims that the prospectus is already public, and every number that only appears on statistics aggregators. The daily pace, the growth multiples and the benchmark are our own work. We'll update this page when Anthropic files a public S-1.
