Midjourney refunds stop at 20 GPU minutes, about 24 image prompts
Midjourney's help centre puts the whole policy in one sentence: "You're eligible for a refund only if you've used less than 20 GPU minutes throughout the lifetime of your account." Relax time counts. So does Turbo. A Standard subscriber who only ever used the unlimited Relax queue can still be over the line.
The chart divides 20 minutes by the cost table in Midjourney's GPU Speed article, read in October 2026. One HD video batch ends the refund on its own. Midjourney calls these costs approximate, and it says upscales, unusual aspect ratios and older model versions can cost more.
The count is lifetime, not monthly. It doesn't reset when a plan lapses. If you subscribed in 2025, used an hour, and came back this month, the new charge isn't refundable under this rule.
On every plan, the window closes long before the month's Fast time runs out. Prices and hours are from Midjourney's plan comparison page, October 2026.
| Plan | Monthly price | Fast GPU time a month | 20 minutes as a share of that |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $10 | 200 minutes | 10% |
| Standard | $30 | 15 hours (900 minutes) | 2.2% |
| Pro | $60 | 30 hours (1,800 minutes) | 1.1% |
| Mega | $120 | 60 hours (3,600 minutes) | 0.6% |
How do I request a refund from Midjourney?
You request it by cancelling. The refund offer is part of the cancel flow on the website, and Midjourney has no separate refund form. Here's the path, from Midjourney's Requesting a Refund and Canceling Your Subscription articles:
- Log in at midjourney.com with the account that holds the subscription.
- Open the Manage Subscription page at midjourney.com/account.
- If an upgrade or downgrade is scheduled, click Cancel Change first.
- Click Cancel Plan. An eligible account sees the refund option here.
- Choose the refund. A confirmation email arrives within a few minutes.
- Wait up to 10 business days for the money, depending on your bank.
Emailing support doesn't create an option the cancel screen didn't show. Midjourney says that if you don't see it, "we're unable to provide a refund." The one exception it names is an error message: wait an hour and try again, because your renewal payment might still be processing, then contact billing support if it persists.
Accounts suspended or terminated for breaking the Terms of Service or Community Guidelines aren't eligible at all, whatever their GPU use.
How do I check how many GPU minutes I have used?
Type /info in any Discord channel where the Midjourney Bot can post. Midjourney's Info Command article says the panel includes a Lifetime Usage line and a line for your Fast, Turbo and Relaxed usage. Only you can see it, even in a public channel.
The website's Manage Subscription page shows remaining Fast time under Usage Details. That's what you have left this month. It isn't what you've spent since you joined, so it can't settle the refund question.
Two habits push people over without noticing. Turbo uses double the Fast time for each image. And Relax jobs feel free on Standard and above, yet they still count toward the 20 minutes.
Of four AI subscriptions that make images, only Midjourney counts minutes instead of days
Every other image subscription checked for this page uses a calendar window, or no refund at all. Midjourney measures use. Each rule below was read on the vendor's own help page or terms in October 2026.
| Subscription | Refund rule as published | What the clock is | Regional exception it names |
|---|---|---|---|
| Midjourney | Under 20 GPU minutes of lifetime use, offered inside Cancel Plan | Usage, with no time limit | None in the refund article |
| ChatGPT Plus (OpenAI) | A discretionary refund for an unused purchase, asked for within 7 days of the charge | 7 days | EU, UK and Turkey: prorated within 14 days. Korea: full within 7 days if unused |
| Adobe plans, which include Firefly | A full refund if you cancel within 14 days of the initial order | 14 days | US terms read. California has its own annual plan fee rule |
| Ideogram | Subscription payments are non-refundable, with no credit for partly used periods | None | None in the terms |
Sources: OpenAI's refund article, Adobe's subscription terms, effective 1 August 2026, and Ideogram's terms of service, last revised 14 August 2024 and still the live version in October 2026. Four is a sample, not the market: Leonardo and other image tools weren't checked.
The gap shows up on day one. An Adobe buyer who used Firefly hard for a week is still inside the 14 day window. A Midjourney buyer who ran 25 prompts in the first hour is not. OpenAI sits between them: its 7 day refund is discretionary and only covers an unused subscription.
Does Midjourney refund the rest of a month or an annual plan?
No. Midjourney's Terms of Service, in the version effective 27 May 2026, say: "You will not be refunded for the current subscription period, but You will not be charged after the current subscription period has ended." The 20 minute refund is the one exception the help centre adds on top.
That bites hardest on annual billing, where the year is paid upfront: $96 on Basic, $288 on Standard, $576 on Pro and $1,152 on Mega. The refund article draws no line between monthly and annual plans. An annual buyer who passed 20 minutes in the first week has no refund route in Midjourney's documentation.
Three more charges are final. A downgrade takes effect at the next renewal, and Midjourney says it "won't refund your current plan." Extra Fast time costs $4 an hour, can't be refunded, and expires after 60 days. Unused monthly Fast time vanishes at each renewal, on monthly and yearly plans alike.
Charged twice, after cancelling, or by someone else? Those go to billing support
Billing errors run on a separate track from the 20 minute refund. Midjourney handles them by email at [email protected], and an automated reply with a ticket number arrives within a few minutes. Put your Midjourney ID in the email. In Discord, /userid shows it.
For a second charge, check your inbox first. Midjourney says that if you didn't get more than one email receipt, you were likely not charged twice, because failed payments can show as pending holds that clear in a few days. Two receipts means writing to support with both receipt or invoice numbers.
For a charge you didn't make, Midjourney asks for the amount, the date and time with your time zone, the card type, the card's country, the issuing bank, the last four digits and the expiry date. Its unauthorized charge article says it can usually get the money back "faster than your bank can."
A failed renewal marks the plan Paused. Midjourney retries the card several times over several days, then cancels the plan. You can stop the retries by cancelling the paused plan on the Manage Subscription page.
Midjourney emails a receipt and invoice for every payment it takes. If your receipt came from Apple instead, the App Store billed you, and the refund goes through reportaproblem.apple.com, where you choose "Request a refund."
When the refund option never appears, use the rest of the cycle
Cancel anyway. You keep every plan feature, Fast time included, until the billing cycle ends, and Midjourney says cancelling comes without penalties. Your images stay in your account, and you can open them on midjourney.com without a subscription.
You'll need to cancel again after any resubscribe. Midjourney says "disabling automatic renewals entirely isn't an option," so each new subscription renews until you cancel that one too.
If the real problem is paying for images on top of a chat subscription, Whizi, which publishes this page, puts both on one plan. Whizi Pro at $29.99 a month includes 100 images a month across Whizi Image, Nano Banana, Flux and Stable Diffusion, next to Claude Opus and GPT for chat. Midjourney wins on volume, though. Its $10 Basic plan carries 200 Fast minutes, roughly 250 standard prompts, and Whizi Starter includes no images at all. How image generation works in Whizi lists the limits.
- Run /info in Discord and read your lifetime and Relaxed usage before you cancel
- Cancel any scheduled upgrade or downgrade with Cancel Change first
- Click Cancel Plan on midjourney.com/account and take the refund if it appears
- Keep the refund confirmation email until the money lands, up to 10 business days
- Send duplicate or unknown charges to [email protected] with receipt numbers and your Midjourney ID
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a Midjourney refund if I used more than 20 GPU minutes?
No, not under Midjourney's published policy. Its refund article says the option appears only for accounts under 20 lifetime GPU minutes, and that without it Midjourney is unable to refund. Duplicate or unauthorized charges are handled separately by billing support. Our AI subscription refunds guide compares the rules at other AI companies.
How long does a Midjourney refund take?
Up to 10 business days, depending on your bank. Midjourney sends a refund confirmation email within a few minutes of the request, so keep that email while the money moves. Anthropic runs its refunds differently, through an eligibility check in a support chat, as our Claude Pro refund guide shows.
Does cancelling Midjourney delete my images?
No. Midjourney says cancelling doesn't delete your generated images or account history, private images stay private, and you can open your images on midjourney.com without an active subscription. If you're moving to another tool, best AI image generators compares the current options.
Does Midjourney have a free trial?
Not on the website or in Discord. As of October 2026, Midjourney's help centre says a limited trial exists only in the niji journey app for iOS and Android, so for most people the first paid month is the trial. ChatGPT's free tier also makes images, within the caps in our ChatGPT image generation limit guide.
