Claude Team plan vs Pro: 1.25x the usage from $20 a seat, with a two seat minimum

In brief

The Claude Team plan costs $25 a seat a month, or $20 billed annually, for 2 to 150 seats, as of October 2026. A Standard seat gets 1.25 times Claude Pro's usage per session, so annual Team works out to $16 per Pro sized allowance, under annual Pro's $16.67. A $125 Premium seat gets 6.25 times.

How much does the Claude Team plan cost for 2 to 50 people?

A two person Claude Team costs $480 a year on annual billing, or $600 billed monthly. Fifty people pay $12,000 a year. Anthropic's pricing page, read on 12 October 2026, lists the Standard seat at $20 a month billed annually and $25 billed monthly, "For teams of 2 to 150". A Premium seat is $100 or $125.

5$1,200 a year$1,500 a year$1,000 a year$100
10$2,400 a year$3,000 a year$2,000 a year$200
25$6,000 a year$7,500 a year$5,000 a year$500, the cap
50$12,000 a year$15,000 a year$10,000 a year$500, the cap

These are US prices before tax. The Pro column is what the same people pay on separate Claude Pro accounts at $200 a year each, so Team costs $40 more per person per year on annual billing. That $40 buys the admin layer, the training default and a quarter more usage. Each is covered below.

The last column is new. Anthropic's API credits page gives each Standard seat $20 a month of Claude API credit and each Premium seat $100, "pooled into one monthly balance, capped at $500 USD". It covers the Claude API, Managed Agents and the Agent SDK. It doesn't cover Claude Code or extra usage in the Claude apps, and unused credit expires each month. A firm that never touches the API gets nothing from it.

Seats bill in one direction. Anthropic's bill calculation page says an added seat is charged "the prorated amount immediately". Remove someone and "You will not receive an immediate credit or refund." The seat stays paid and open for the next hire.

Does Claude Team get more usage than Pro?

Yes, 25% more per session on a Standard seat. Anthropic's Team plan article says "Team plan Standard seats include 1.25x the Pro plan's per-session usage allowance" and "Team plan Premium seats include 6.25x". Divide each price by its multiplier and almost every Claude plan lands on the same rate: $20 per Pro sized allowance on monthly billing.

Per Pro sized allowance, Claude Team costs $16 on annual billing and $20 monthly

The chart shows what the price list hides. Annual Team, at $16 per allowance, undercuts every Claude plan that Anthropic's pricing page puts a number on. Max 20x would beat it at $10, but only at the $200 a month TechCrunch reported at its April 2025 launch. Anthropic now lists Max as "From $100" and prints no 20x price, so check that figure at checkout. A Premium seat on annual billing gives 6.25x Pro for $100 a month, and Max 5x gives 5x for the same $100. On monthly billing Team buys no discount at all. $25 for 1.25x is Pro's own rate.

The multipliers cover the five hour session. Both seat types also carry a weekly limit, and Anthropic doesn't publish a multiplier for it. Limits are per member, so one person hitting the cap doesn't slow anyone else, and nobody can borrow a colleague's unused allowance. An admin can let people keep working past the cap by prepaying usage credits, and Anthropic lets the admin "Set spending caps at organization and individual user levels."

OpenAI charges the same for ChatGPT Business: $25 a seat, or $20 billed annually, with a "2 seat minimum per workspace", per its billing page. Its usage table gives a Business Standard seat the same estimates as Plus. So at one price, Claude Team adds usage over the solo plan and ChatGPT Business doesn't. ChatGPT Business vs Plus has the OpenAI side.

What does the Claude Team plan add over Claude Pro?

Team adds four things Pro can't switch on: no model training by default, single sign-on, central billing with usage analytics, and admin controls over connectors. Claude Code, Projects and connectors are on both, per the comparison table on Anthropic's pricing page.

The training row decides most purchases, so here is the wording. For Team, Anthropic's privacy center says "We will not use your chats or coding sessions to train our models" unless the organization joins its Development Partner Program. Thumbs up or down feedback is the one exception. On Pro it's a toggle, Model Improvement in your privacy settings (how to turn it off). Leave it on and Anthropic may keep that data "in a de-identified format for up to 5 years". A Pro user who flips it off gets close to the Team outcome for new chats. What differs is who has to remember, and what a client's security questionnaire accepts.

Admin control cuts both ways. A Team's Primary Owner can export the organization's data, and Anthropic's export page says "Data exports include conversation data". Members get no export of their own: "Individual members of Team and Enterprise organizations do not have a self-serve export option." Your employer can read your work chats on Team. Can my employer see my ChatGPT conversations compares that with the other workplace plans.

Team stops short of what a regulated firm needs. SCIM provisioning and audit logs are Enterprise only on Anthropic's table, and its HIPAA page says "Team plans and individual plans (Free, Pro, and Max) can't enable HIPAA." A clinic, or a firm past 150 people, is an Enterprise buyer.

Is the Claude Team plan worth it for a small firm?

Yes for two to 50 people on annual billing, if the firm handles client data. For one person it isn't sold. Anthropic's getting started page is blunt: "Team plans require a minimum of two members and are not intended for individual use."

One person: Claude Pro at $200 a year, with Model Improvement switched off. A solo buyer who forces a Team pays $480 for two seats. If Pro runs out every afternoon, Claude Max is the solo route, and is Claude Max worth it runs that math.

Two to 25 people: Team Standard on annual billing. Each person costs $40 a year more than Pro and gets 25% more session usage, and the firm gets SSO, one invoice and the training default. If anyone builds on the API, the monthly credit equals the seat price. Past 25 Standard seats the pool stops growing at $500.

The one heavy user: give that person a Premium seat. On annual billing it's $100 a month for 6.25x Pro, more than Max 5x gives for the same money. Billed monthly it's $125, Max 5x's rate exactly. A Team needs two members, so the cheapest Premium setup is one Premium and one Standard seat, $120 a month on annual billing.

Over 150 seats, or needing SCIM, audit logs or HIPAA: Enterprise. Anthropic's pricing FAQ says it's billed annually only, and its table prices it as "Seat price + usage at API rates".

Whizi, which publishes this page, loses every row above one person. It sells individual plans only, with no seats, admin console or member list (team accounts). It fits the solo buyer Team turns away. Whizi Pro at $29.99 a month ($19.99 billed yearly, $1.99 for the first week) puts Claude Opus and Claude Sonnet next to GPT on one login, and Whizi doesn't use your prompts, files or conversations to train Whizi-owned models.

What happens to your Claude Pro chats when you move to Team?

Your Pro chats can move into Team once, and they can't move back. Anthropic's migration page says "Bringing your work into a Team or Enterprise workspace is one-way." Chats, projects with their files, uploads and memory move. Custom skills, connected app sign-ins, published artifacts and share links don't.

A Pro or Max plan bought on the web or through Google Play is cancelled for you, with a prorated refund for unused time. Bought it through Apple? Anthropic can't cancel an App Store plan, so cancel it in your Apple ID settings before you move, or Apple keeps charging. Anthropic says the web refund arrives "about 24 hours after your Team payment goes through."

You can also keep both. Upgrade at claude.ai/upgrade with "Keep your personal account separate" ticked, and your Pro plan and chats stay where they are. Leave it unticked and Anthropic upgrades your existing account in place. Remember the export row before you merge: once your chats sit in the Team workspace, the Primary Owner's export includes them.

Workflow checklist
  • Count people first: Team needs two members, so a solo buyer pays $480 a year for two seats against $200 for annual Claude Pro
  • Pick annual billing at two or more people: $20 a seat instead of $25, and $16 per Pro sized allowance
  • Give a Premium seat only to the person who empties the five hour session; it is 6.25x Pro at $100 a month annual
  • Link a Claude Console organization if anyone uses the API, since each seat brings monthly credit that expires unused
  • Export or keep your personal Pro chats separate before migrating; the move is one way and the Primary Owner can export Team chats
  • Go to Enterprise for SCIM, audit logs, HIPAA or more than 150 seats
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum number of seats for Claude Team?

Two, as of October 2026, and the maximum is 150. Anthropic's help center says "Team plans require a minimum of two members." Older guides still say five because the plan launched in May 2024 at $30 a seat "with a minimum purchase of five licenses", as The Decoder reported then. Both the minimum and the price have come down since then. For one person, the Claude Pro annual plan page lists what a single seat costs by platform.

Is Claude Code included in the Claude Team plan?

Yes, it is on both Standard and Premium seats. Anthropic's pricing FAQ says "Claude Code is included in all paid plans. It shares the same usage limits as the rest of your plan", so your terminal sessions draw on the same 1.25x or 6.25x allowance as chat. The monthly API credit doesn't cover Claude Code, and some older help pages that said Team excluded it are out of date. When a seat hits the cap, Claude usage limit reached explains the five hour reset.

Is there a discount on the Claude Team plan?

Yes for nonprofits and research labs, not for businesses. Anthropic said in December 2025 that "Nonprofits are now eligible for a discount of up to 75% on Team and Enterprise plans." Its Team plan for scientists gives verified academic and nonprofit research groups free Standard seats and $15 Premium seats for 12 months, for 1 to 25 seats. A business saves only by billing annually, $5 a seat a month. Individual students are a separate case, covered in Claude student discount.

Can one person buy the Claude Team plan?

Not sensibly. Anthropic says Team plans require a minimum of two members and are not intended for individual use. A solo buyer who still wants Team pays $480 a year for two Standard seats, against $200 for annual Claude Pro. Pro with Model Improvement switched off is the one person route. Is Claude Pro worth it covers what it gives you if you go that way.
