ChatGPT Plus discount: no code exists, but 10 ways to pay less

In brief

ChatGPT Plus has no standing discount: OpenAI sells no discount code and no yearly price as of October 2026, and Plus has cost $20 a month since its February 2023 launch. Every discount since then was a window, such as 12 free months for US veterans, or 50% off for three months shown to some people who cancel.

Is there a ChatGPT Plus discount?

Nine discount windows have opened since March 2025, and OpenAI's pricing page still listed Plus at $20 on 12 October 2026, the price it launched at on 1 February 2023. OpenAI and its partners don't cut the price. They give Plus away, or halve it, for a set time and a set group. The chart puts all nine on one line. Orange points are the two OpenAI offers its help center still listed as open when we checked.

Each point sits on the day the offer opened or was first reported, except the 2026 student offer, which OpenAI dates only by its 31 October deadline. Three offers depend on who you are. Four depend on which phone carrier you pay. Two appeared only when people clicked Cancel. None of them lowered the $20 for good, and OpenAI's promotions page says how they end: "Most promotions auto-renew to the standard ChatGPT Plus monthly rate after the promotional period ends." A discount delays the price. It doesn't change it.

Which ChatGPT Plus discounts have no end date?

Nine routes take money off a paid ChatGPT plan with no end date published, as of 12 October 2026, and five of them lead to Plus itself. We read each row from OpenAI's help center, a carrier's own release, the App Store or a dated press report. "Reported" means a news test found it and OpenAI hasn't published it. Offers with a deadline are in the dated table in the next section.

The biggest lasting Plus offer is also the narrowest. A US veteran who left active duty in the past 12 months gets a year of Plus, worth $240 at the US price, after an ID.me check, per OpenAI's veterans terms. OpenAI lists no closing date, and each claim lasts a year from the day you make it. It renews at $20 unless you cancel.

Which ChatGPT Plus offers had a deadline?

Six offers came with a fixed window or a single launch date. This table is the part of the page that goes stale first, so each row carries the status we read on 12 October 2026.

A student's four months were worth $80 at the US price, and SheerID checked enrollment for both student offers. Our ChatGPT Plus student discount page tracks the next student window, and ChatGPT Plus free trial covers the invite links.

Does ChatGPT give you a discount if you cancel Plus?

Sometimes, and only on the web. TechRadar reported on 12 June 2025 that subscribers who clicked Cancel Plan were offered 50% off for three months, so $10 a month instead of $20. In October 2025 BGR found the same "Keep Plus for 50% off" button. It also found that many people never see it. BGR's own writer cancelled twice and got no offer. Then on 1 January 2026 BleepingComputer reported a second version: one free month, rolled out gradually to some regions.

OpenAI doesn't mention either offer. Its cancellation article says only what happens when you leave: "After an ordinary cancellation, paid features remain available until the end of the current billing period." To see whether you get an offer:

  1. Open chatgpt.com in a browser, not the app.
  2. Go to Settings, then Account, then Manage, and choose Cancel.
  3. If an offer appears, read the price and the number of months before you accept it.
  4. If none appears, the cancellation goes through and Plus runs to the end of the month you paid for.

Two catches apply. A plan billed by Apple or Google Play is cancelled in that store, so the web offer never shows there. And OpenAI says that "Reactivating your subscription after cancellation will not restore the promotional price." If you were leaving anyway, clicking Cancel costs nothing. Our cancellation guide has the clicks for each platform.

Is there a ChatGPT Plus discount code?

There's no public one. OpenAI doesn't post codes, and its invite FAQ says "Eligibility to send invites is determined by OpenAI for each campaign." Real codes reach you two ways: a referral link from OpenAI or a subscriber, or a partner such as your phone carrier. Each works once, for one account. Many work only for people who've never paid for Plus. OpenAI's promotions page lists why a code fails: you already have Plus, you used a similar offer, the code expired, or it excludes your region or card.

Carriers hand out the biggest codes. Orange in France, Movistar in Spain, O2 in Germany and SK Telecom in Korea have each given 3 to 12 months of Plus, and the dated table above has each window. Orange kept its year for new ChatGPT Plus customers, and SK Telecom also took people who'd cancelled over 90 days earlier. So check your carrier's app before you pay OpenAI.

A code sold on a coupon or resale site isn't one of these. OpenAI's rule is plain: "Each promo code is meant for one user and cannot be transferred or sold for cash." A seller who offers a shared Plus login keeps the password, and with it your chats.

Is ChatGPT Plus cheaper yearly or in another country?

Not yearly. OpenAI's Plus help article says "we do not support annual billing or the option to pay for multiple months in advance." The App Store muddies that. In all five storefronts we read on 12 October 2026, Apple lists two items called ChatGPT Plus. The second costs about ten months of the first: $200 against $19.99 in the US, £200 against £19.99 in the UK, €229 against €22.99 in Germany, ₹19,900 against ₹1,999 in India and ₱9,990 against ₱999 in the Philippines.

In every one of those stores, that second item is also the exact price of the item called ChatGPT Pro 200. We didn't buy it, and OpenAI doesn't say it's a year of Plus. If your phone offers you one, read the renewal period on Apple's confirmation sheet before you pay. ChatGPT Plus annual plan prices a year against Claude Pro and Google AI Pro.

Country makes a real difference, but it follows your account. Apple charges ₱999 a month for Plus in the Philippines and ₹1,999 in India, against $19.99 before tax in the US. OpenAI's billing article says an app subscription is "managed by the Apple App Store or Google Play and charges will appear in your local currency." On the web it lists 67 currencies. Our ChatGPT Plus price by country table converts 37 markets to dollars.

What costs less than ChatGPT Plus?

ChatGPT Go costs less, at $8 a month in the US as of October 2026. OpenAI's pricing page sells it as "Expanded access" and Plus as "Do more with advanced intelligence", and ChatGPT Go vs Plus shows what the $12 gap buys.

Teams have two more routes. ChatGPT Business costs $20 a seat a month billed yearly, or $25 monthly, with a minimum of two seats, per OpenAI's Business billing page. That's the Plus price with a contract. A verified nonprofit pays $8 a seat a month billed yearly, or $10 monthly, through OpenAI for Nonprofits. Two nonprofit seats come to $192 a year. That's $48 less than one person's year of Plus. Premium seats don't get the nonprofit rate, and Goodstack checks each charity.

Whizi, which publishes this page, isn't ChatGPT Plus and sells no Plus discount. Its Starter plan is $15.99 a month, or $10.99 a month billed yearly at $131.88, for ChatGPT Luna, Claude Haiku and Whizi AI. Pro is $29.99 a month, with a $1.99 first week, and adds Claude Opus, Claude Sonnet and ChatGPT Sol side by side. Credits per message vary by model and can change, and pricing shows the current allowance. If ChatGPT is the only app you use, Plus at $20 is the better buy.

Workflow checklist
  • Look in your phone carrier's app for a ChatGPT Plus code before you pay OpenAI
  • Claim a checked offer if one fits you: ID.me for US veterans, SheerID for any open US student window
  • If you were leaving anyway, cancel on chatgpt.com in a browser and read any offer before you accept it
  • Set a reminder two days before any free or half price period ends, because most promotions renew at $20
  • Never buy a Plus code or a shared login from a coupon or resale site
