Best AI chat app in 2026: 10 apps ranked on model families and side by side answers

In brief

Whizi is the best AI chat app for comparing answers: its Pro plan reaches all ten leading model families and runs one prompt through two of them in separate columns on whizi.io. Poe ranks second: it also reaches all ten, costs less per reply and starts at $4.99, but compares inside one shared chat.

Which AI chat app reaches the most model families on one plan?

Whizi ranks first and Poe second, with three caveats right below the chart. The test is how many leading model families one plan reaches, then whether two of them can answer one prompt in separate columns, each in its own chat that never sees the other's reply. Ties among the one family apps break on US App Store rating count. We counted ten families: GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Meta's Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral, Qwen, Kimi and GLM.

Three caveats come with Whizi's first place. Its compare view runs on whizi.io, not in the iPhone or Android app, and it takes two models at a time on Pro and Powerhouse. Poe compares too: its /compare command reruns a prompt in the same chat, and Poe doesn't document whether the second bot sees the first reply. And Poe costs less. It starts at $4.99, and a Claude Sonnet reply runs 0.7 to 8.6 cents there against 12 cents on Whizi Pro.

The split is sharp. Perplexity's model list, dated 17 October 2026, puts GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Kimi and GLM on Pro. Its Claude on Pro is Sonnet, though. Claude Opus waits on Max. The other seven apps each sell one lab's models. So if you want GPT, Claude and Gemini the usual way, you'd pay three times: ChatGPT Plus at $19.99, Claude Pro at $20.00 and Google AI Pro at $19.99 in the App Store on 11 October 2026. That's $59.98 a month.

Poe's public model list, read on 21 October 2026, carries Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok, Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral, Qwen, Kimi and GLM bots. Poe's help center sells "access to all major models and more starting at $4.99/month." Whizi Pro reaches the same ten. The tie breaks on how each app shows two answers at once, and the section on one app with ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini covers that below, along with what a reply costs on each.

Copilot counts one family here, and that needs a note. Microsoft's July 2026 post puts Claude Opus in the model selector of Microsoft 365 Copilot, the work product, and adds that "Availability may vary by region and tenant configuration." We found no Microsoft page that brings Claude to the consumer Copilot app or to Microsoft 365 Premium.

What are the 10 best AI chat apps in 2026?

Whizi ranks first and Poe second because both reach all ten families on one plan, and Whizi's compare keeps each model's chat apart, while Poe doesn't document whether its compare does. Perplexity is third with six families. The seven apps that offer one family follow in order of their US App Store rating counts on 11 October 2026. That puts ChatGPT fourth and Claude eighth:

Whizi publishes this page, and it's the newest app on the list, so here's where it loses. It costs more per reply than Poe, and its compare view isn't in the phone apps. It went live in the App Store on 26 August 2026 and had 3 US ratings on 11 October. Its Android listing showed 100+ downloads and no rating yet. There's no iPad version, no widget and no Siri or Android assistant action. Files you attach in the app are capped at 10 MB each (the website takes 100 MB). The free tier is thin: text only, on Whizi AI and Auto, with 7 messages on day one and 3 a day after. And side by side model chats run on whizi.io, not in the phone app. The app and the web share one account and the same model catalog, so Pro opens all ten families on both.

How do the 10 AI chat apps compare on iPhone and Android?

ChatGPT has the most ratings on both stores by a wide margin, and Whizi has the fewest. We read the US App Store listings and the Google Play listings on 11 October 2026, except Poe's Play listing, read on 21 October. The plan column is the main paid tier each app sells, in US dollars as of October 2026:

The star averages barely move. Eight of the ten sit between 4.4 and 4.9 on Play, so the review count says more. Whizi's 5.0 on iPhone comes from three people, and that proves nothing yet.

Two listings on Play carry the Contains ads label: ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. OpenAI's help center says "We do not show ads to users on Plus, Pro, or any Business plan," so the ads land on Free and Go. Five apps also need a newer iPhone as of 21 October 2026. ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity need iOS 18, Gemini needs iOS 18.2 and Copilot iOS 26, while Whizi runs on iOS 16.4. Our best AI app for iPhone guide covers size, iOS version and age rating for each one.

Is there one app with ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini?

Yes, three of them: Whizi, Poe and Perplexity. They differ in how a message is billed and in how far up each family they go.

Poe bills by the token. Its model list prices Claude Sonnet at $2.02 per million input tokens and $10.10 per million output tokens, and Poe's purchases FAQ sells extra points at $30 per million. With Poe's auto-manage context turned off, every turn sends the whole chat back as input (its FAQ says leaving that setting on trims older history to save points). So a short Sonnet reply (1,000 tokens in, 500 out) costs about 236 points. Once the chat holds 40,000 tokens, the same reply costs about 2,862. That's 12 times more for the same answer.

Whizi bills by the message. Claude Sonnet costs 10 credits at any chat length, and Pro's 2,500 credits a month buy 250 of them, or 125 Claude Opus replies at 20 credits. That works out to 12 cents a Sonnet reply at $29.99. Poe is cheaper per reply at both lengths: about 0.7 cents fresh and 8.6 cents at 40,000 tokens, at its rate for extra points. Poe wins on price. What you get from Whizi is a price you know before you send, at the cost of paying more per reply. There's also a cap. Whizi sends at most 40,000 tokens of the chat each turn, so it trims the oldest part of a very long thread.

Perplexity bills a flat $20 for Pro, but the top models sit higher. Its list puts OpenAI's Astra, Claude Opus and Gemini Argon on Max only, and Max is $200 in the App Store. Whizi Pro carries Claude Opus at $29.99. Whizi's two top rungs, Claude Fable and ChatGPT Astra, need Powerhouse at $49.99.

Side by side chats are why Whizi ranks first. On Whizi Pro you press Compare in the chat header and send one prompt to two models in two columns, as our compare guide shows, and each column bills at its own model's rate. Each column keeps its own chat, so neither model sees the other's answer, and follow ups stay separate. That runs on the website only, not in Whizi's phone apps. Poe compares inside the chat you're in. Its announcement says you type /compare after a response and @mention the bots you want, "in any chat on Poe." Poe doesn't say whether the second bot sees the first reply.

What is the best free AI chat app?

ChatGPT is the best free AI chat app. OpenAI's pricing page lists "Unlimited everyday text chats" on Free as of October 2026, with uploads, images, voice and deep research limited. The trade is ads, which the Play listing flags.

Gemini is the best free pick on Android if you don't want ads. Its Play listing shows no ads label and nothing to buy, and on most phones it's already installed. DeepSeek sells nothing on either store, but it rates lowest of the ten. Whizi's free tier is the thinnest here: 7 messages on day one, then 3 a day, on Whizi AI and Auto only. Our ChatGPT free vs paid comparison goes row by row on what paying adds.

Workflow checklist
  • List the model families you used last month, and buy one family's app only if the answer is one
  • Add up what you pay now: ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro and Google AI Pro come to $59.98 in the App Store
  • Check whether an app bills per token or per message before you start long chats
  • Look at the rating count, not the star average, on the App Store and Google Play
  • Confirm the top model you want is on the plan you're buying, not one tier up
