Which AI assistant app finishes the most jobs? Whizi, with all eight on the web
We ranked each app by one test: how many of eight jobs it finishes inside its own app, on any consumer plan, going only by its maker's pages in October 2026. Seven are tasks you hand off: an Excel file, a Word or PDF file, a slide deck, a deep research report, an image, a video and a song. The eighth is choosing the best model for each job, which means GPT, Claude and Gemini models in one app. Ties went to the app with more US App Store ratings on 21 October 2026.
The eighth job decides first place. Count only the seven tasks and Whizi ties Gemini at seven, and Gemini wins that tie with 2,359,807 ratings against Whizi's 3. We count model choice because switching models is how you pick the strongest one for each task, and only Whizi, Perplexity and Poe let you switch between GPT, Claude and Gemini in one app. Whizi publishes this page, so the source for every cell is listed at the bottom.
Whizi's eight also come with a web caveat. Its Excel, Word and PDF files, its slide decks and its Deep Research work on the website only. In the iPhone and Android apps it finishes five: a file Word opens, images, video, music and model choice. Gemini came closest among model makers at seven. ChatGPT finished five. OpenAI's help center says "The Sora web and app experiences were discontinued on April 26, 2026," and the ChatGPT pricing page lists no video or music as of October 2026.
How do 10 AI assistant apps compare, job by job?
An app got a job only when its maker's own page says the app does it, on web or mobile, on a consumer plan. Bots that Poe users built didn't count. Neither did business plans. Here's the grid, as of October 2026:
| App | Excel file | Word or PDF file | Slide deck | Deep research | Image | Video | Music | Model choice: GPT, Claude and Gemini | Jobs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Whizi | Yes, website | Yes, website | Yes, website | Yes, website | Yes, Pro | Yes, Powerhouse | Yes, Powerhouse | Yes, Pro | 8 |
| Google Gemini | Yes | Yes | Yes, as Google Slides | Yes | Yes | Yes, AI Plus | Yes | No | 7 |
| Perplexity | Yes, Pro | Yes, Pro | Yes, Pro | Yes | Yes | Yes, Pro | No | Yes, Pro | 7 |
| Grok | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes, Premium | No | No | 6 |
| ChatGPT | Yes, Plus | Yes, Plus | Yes, Plus | Yes | Yes | No | No | No | 5 |

| Vibe by Mistral | Yes, Pro | Research reports only | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | No | No | 4 |
| Meta AI | Not confirmed | Not confirmed | Not confirmed | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | No | 3 |
Gemini's decks open in Google Slides instead of downloading as a .pptx, and we still counted them, since Google's file post of 29 April 2026 lists Docs, Sheets, Slides, .pdf, .docx and .xlsx for "all Gemini app users globally." We didn't count Copilot's model choice. Microsoft's help page says you need a Microsoft Copilot license for it, which is a business plan.
DeepSeek missed the list. Its chat app does none of the eight: DeepSeek's own pages describe no file output, image, video or music in the app, and no other company's models.
The 10 best AI assistant apps for getting tasks done, ranked
Each app wins for someone. Every pick and every losing case below comes from the same vendor pages as the grid:
| Rank | App | Best for | Why it wins | Where it loses |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Whizi | One account for files, research, media and model choice | On the website, files come back as .xlsx, .docx and .pptx and an attached PDF form comes back filled, and Pro reaches Claude Opus, ChatGPT Sol and Gemini Flash | Office files, decks and Deep Research on the website only, all eight only on Powerhouse at $49.99 a month, and 3 App Store ratings |
| 2 | Google Gemini | The most jobs for the least money | Seven jobs from $4.99 a month, and Office files, deep research and images on Free | Only Google's models, and decks go to Slides, not .pptx |
| 3 | Perplexity | Research with sources | Deep research that "cites every claim", plus GPT, Claude and Gemini on Pro | No music, and files and video need Pro |
| 4 | Grok | Office files on a free account | Word, PowerPoint, Excel and PDF skills on every account since 18 May 2026 | Video needs the $30 Premium plan, and only xAI models |
| 5 | ChatGPT | The most popular all rounder | 11.5 million US ratings, images on Free and deep research with citations | No video since Sora closed on 26 April 2026, and no music |
| 6 | Microsoft Copilot | Microsoft 365 households | Word, Excel and PowerPoint files from a chat | Researcher needs Microsoft 365 Premium at $19.99, and no video on personal plans |
| 7 | Poe | Trying many models and media bots | Official bots for GPT, Claude, Gemini, Veo video and ElevenLabs music | Office files come only from bots other users built |
| 8 | Claude | Office files on the free plan | Excel, PowerPoint, Word and PDF files on every plan, Free included | No image, video or music at all |
| 9 | Vibe by Mistral | An assistant made in Europe | Slide decks on every plan and Excel files on Pro at $14.99 | Only research reports save as PDF, and no video or music |
| 10 | Meta AI | Free images and video | Images and Vibes video clips at no cost | No Meta page confirms a downloadable Office file |
Whizi, which publishes this page, is the newest app on the list and loses on every trust signal. It went live on 26 August 2026 and had 3 US ratings on 21 October. There's no iPad version of it, and it has no widget or Siri action. Files you attach in the app are capped at 10 MB each (the website takes 100 MB). The free tier is thin: text only, on Whizi AI and Auto, with 7 messages on day one and 3 a day after that. The full set also costs the most here. Video and music need Powerhouse at $49.99 a month, while Pro at $29.99 does six of the eight jobs.
What Whizi does differently is hand the work back in the shape you asked for. On the website a spreadsheet request returns a real .xlsx, a deck returns a .pptx, and an attached PDF form returns as the same PDF with its boxes filled. The phone app makes no decks, and its files come back as CSV or a file Word opens. Deep Research is website only too. It runs on any paid plan for 200 credits, reads the chat you start it from, and asks for papers with DOIs when you want journal sources. One account reaches a catalog of 280+ models. Whizi is on the App Store and Google Play.
Which AI assistant apps have voice mode? Eight of the ten talk back
Eight of the ten apps hold a spoken, two way conversation, so voice barely separates them and we left it out of the job count. Gemini Live and Claude's voice mode both work on free accounts, and Google's help page says you "Talk to Gemini without typing, and Gemini will respond back verbally." Here's each app's voice mode as of October 2026:
| App | Talks back? | Feature | Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Whizi | Yes, in the app and on the website | Voice mode | Paid only: 10 minutes a month on Starter, 80 on Pro, 500 on Powerhouse |
| Google Gemini | Yes | Gemini Live | Free |
| ChatGPT | Yes | ChatGPT Voice | Free, with limits |
| Claude | Yes | Voice mode | Free and every paid plan |
| Grok | Yes | Voice | Free, with limits |
| Microsoft Copilot | Yes | Copilot Voice | An eligible Microsoft subscription |
| Perplexity | Yes | Voice mode | Plan not stated |
| Meta AI | Yes | Voice chat | Plan not stated |
| Vibe by Mistral | Dictation only | Voice mode | Every plan |
| Poe | No voice mode in Poe's help center | None | None |
Whizi's voice has the tightest published limits here. It runs on Google's Gemini Live, caps each session at 15 minutes, and isn't on the free plan at all. Starter's 10 minutes a month is a taster, not a daily habit.
Is ChatGPT still the best AI assistant app? For chat, yes. For finished work, no
ChatGPT is still the assistant most people use. It had 11,486,337 US App Store ratings on 21 October 2026, almost five times Gemini's 2,359,807. It also scores well on the jobs it does. OpenAI's deep research guide says every report includes citations or source links, and images work on every tier.
The gaps are media and model choice. OpenAI shut Sora's web and app in April, so ChatGPT makes no video now. It doesn't make music. It answers with GPT models only. Files also sit behind a plan. OpenAI's pricing page keeps ChatGPT Work, where files get made, to the desktop app on Free and Go, and Plus at $20 a month opens it on the web and phone. Our Gemini vs ChatGPT comparison goes deeper on the two leaders.
Which AI assistant app is free? Gemini does the most on $0
Gemini has the strongest free plan for finishing work. On Free it makes Docs, Sheets, Slides, .docx and .xlsx files, runs deep research with limits, and draws images. Its music page adds Lyria tracks "up to three minutes long" for anyone 18 or older, and it names no paid plan for them. Video is the one job that needs a subscription.
Two other free plans make Office files. Anthropic says file creation "is available to all Claude users (Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise)." xAI gave every Grok account Word, PowerPoint, Excel and PDF skills on 18 May 2026. ChatGPT Free gets images and a limited number of deep research runs. Whizi's free tier is the weakest of these: 7 messages on day one, then 3 a day, on Whizi AI and Auto, with no research or media.
What does each assistant app cost to finish all its jobs?
Gemini is the price winner by a distance. Seven jobs for $4.99 a month is a tenth of what Whizi charges for eight. Here's the cheapest consumer plan that covers every job each app can do, in US dollars, as of October 2026:
| App | Jobs | Cheapest plan that does all of them | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Whizi | 8 | Powerhouse | $49.99 a month, or $34.99 a month billed yearly |
| Google Gemini | 7 | Google AI Plus | $4.99 a month |
| Perplexity | 7 | Pro | $17 a month billed yearly |
| Grok | 6 | Premium | $30 a month |
| ChatGPT | 5 | Plus | $20 a month |
| Microsoft Copilot | 5 | Microsoft 365 Premium | $19.99 a month |
| Poe | 5 | Smallest points plan | $49.99 a year |
| Claude | 4 | Pro | $20 a month |
| Vibe by Mistral | 4 | Pro | $14.99 a month |
| Meta AI | 3 | Free | $0 |
Whizi Pro at $29.99 drops video and music and keeps the other six jobs, with side by side model chats. Poe sells points, and its smallest plan gives 10,000 points a day. Poe's plan page doesn't say how many points a video costs. And Gemini's cheap tier carries lower limits than Google AI Pro at $19.99. Our Google AI Pro review checks what the bigger plan adds.
- Write down the three jobs you do most, then check them against the grid
- Count a job only when the vendor's own page says the app does it
- Check which plan includes video and music before you pay
- Ask for the file type you need by name: .xlsx, .docx, .pptx or PDF
- Start on a free plan and upgrade only after you hit a wall
Frequently asked questions
What is the best free AI assistant app?
Gemini. Its free plan makes Docs, Sheets, Slides, .docx and .xlsx files, runs deep research with limits and draws images, as of October 2026. Claude and Grok also make Office files for free. If you're choosing your first AI app at all, our beginner's guide to AI apps has a decision path.
Is there one AI assistant app with ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini?
Yes, at least three. Whizi, Perplexity Pro and Poe all put GPT, Claude and Gemini models in one app. Whizi Pro reaches Claude Opus, Claude Sonnet, ChatGPT Sol and Gemini Flash, and it can run two of them side by side on one prompt.
Can an AI assistant app make Excel or PowerPoint files?
Yes, eight of the ten apps here make an Excel file you can download: Whizi on the website, Gemini, Perplexity Pro, Grok, ChatGPT Plus, Copilot, Claude and Vibe Pro. Gemini sends decks to Google Slides. For subscriptions that bundle several AI tools, see the all in one AI platforms we compared.
Which AI assistant app is best for research?
Perplexity, for most people. Its deep research "cites every claim," and Pro adds GPT, Claude and Gemini models. For journal papers, Whizi's Deep Research asks for articles with DOIs. Our task by task picks cover writing and coding too.
