Best AI chatbot: 10 ranked by job, checked against 9 million blind votes

In brief

Whizi is the best AI chatbot if you want every major one in one place: its Pro plan carries the Claude, Gemini, GPT and Kimi models behind 14 of the top 25 entries on Text Arena's 9 million vote blind test. For one chatbot, Gemini leads that test, Claude wins writing, ChatGPT everyday use and Perplexity research.

Which AI chatbot is best?

Whizi is the best AI chatbot for anyone who wants all of the big ones, because one Pro plan reaches more of the top ranked models than any single chatbot can. We checked that against Text Arena, a site where people read two answers to the same prompt without knowing which model wrote them, then pick the one they like more. Its board, updated on 27 October 2026, ranks 419 models on 9,003,272 votes. This is who holds the top 25 places on it:

Anthropic holds 10 of the top 25 places in the blind vote. OpenAI holds one
AnthropicClaude, best is Opus 5.5 at 3rd10 of 25GoogleGemini, best is 4 Carbon at 1st7 of 25MetaMuse, best is Wonder at 4th5 of 25MoonshotKimi K3 at 19th1 of 25OpenAIChatGPT, best isGPT-5.6 Sol at 22nd1 of 25AlibabaQwen3.8-Max at 24th1 of 25DeepSeekbest entry at 35thnonexAIGrok, best entry at 40thnoneeach square is one of the top 25 TextArena entries, board of 27 October 2026

Whizi Pro carries the models behind 14 of those 25 entries. That's eight entries from five Claude Opus versions (5.5, 5, 4.8, 4.7 and 4.6), four Gemini models, Kimi K3 and GPT-5.6 Sol. A plan from one lab can only reach that lab's own entries, so the most any of them can get is Anthropic's 10. There is a catch, though. The board tests a lot of its entries at High or Max reasoning effort, and Whizi runs its models at minimal effort (in the phone app, the Think longer switch lifts a turn to high). So the answer you get on Whizi isn't always the one that voters scored.

The gaps at the top are small. With the Elo formula that the board's scores are built on, Gemini 4 Argon at 1520 would beat GPT-5.6 Sol at 1485 about 55 times in 100. Claude Opus 5.5, at 1509, would beat it about 53 times. Gemini 4 Carbon is first at 1528, but the board marks it as preliminary. Google's announcement, as 9to5Google reported it on 28 October, says it's "coming soon to developers, businesses, and consumers." You can't buy it in a chatbot plan yet.

What are the 10 best AI chatbots, ranked by job?

Whizi ranks first for breadth, and each single chatbot after it ranks by the job it wins. We read every price in the US App Store and every rank on Text Arena on 31 October 2026:

We stopped at ten. The lists from Zapier and Tidio, two of the top results for this question, share eight of these names: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, DeepSeek, Grok and Meta AI. Whizi, Poe and Perplexity are the three here that put several labs' models on one plan. We quote the price of Whizi on its website, and the other prices are from the App Store. If you're picking a phone app and not a chatbot, our AI chat app ranking compares the apps on model families and side by side answers.

Why does one app cost less than stacking chatbot subscriptions?

Each chatbot sells the models of one lab, so if you want the top three labs, you need three plans. ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro and Google AI Pro come to $59.98 a month in the US App Store on 31 October 2026. If you add SuperGrok and Perplexity Pro, you're at $109.98. Whizi Pro is $29.99 a month on the web, or $19.99 a month if you pay for the year. It carries models from 11 labs, with GPT, Claude Opus and Gemini among them, and it adds 100 images and 80 voice minutes a month. On whizi.io you can send one prompt to two models in side by side columns, and each one keeps its own chat. You can also bring your old ChatGPT and Claude chats with you.

Here's where Whizi loses. It sells the models, not the labs' own apps, so ChatGPT's Advanced Voice Mode, Claude Code and the 5 TB of storage in Google AI Pro stay with the companies that make them. The compare view is on the website, not in the phone apps. Claude Fable and Meta's Muse Spark 1.3 need Powerhouse at $49.99, and so do video and music after the one free clip. Poe is cheaper to start, at $4.99 for Basic, though its public model list had no Claude Opus 5.5 or GPT-5.6 Sol when we read it on 31 October 2026. And if you only use one chatbot, just buy that one. Claude Pro on its own costs less than Whizi Pro. All of the Whizi plans are on the pricing page.

Is Gemini or Claude the best single AI chatbot?

Gemini is the best single chatbot on the blind vote, and Claude is the better pick for writing and files. Google has the top two entries on the board, and Gemini 4 Argon, at 1520, is the best model that you can actually buy. Google's release notes for 13 October 2026 say it's "rolling out globally for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the Gemini app," and AI Pro is $19.99 in the App Store. Claude Opus 5.5 is 11 points back, at 1509. That's about 52 wins in 100, which is close to a coin flip.

Claude wins on what you get for free. Anthropic's pricing page says that Free can "Search the web, create files, and run code," and there's voice mode on all of its plans. The free plan runs Sonnet and Haiku. Opus starts on Pro, at $20 a month or $17 if you pay for a year, and Max is $100 on the web. Anthropic has 10 of the top 25 places, which is more than any other lab, so a Claude plan buys you the deepest bench of top models. Our ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini comparison puts the three of them head to head.

Is ChatGPT still the best AI chatbot?

ChatGPT is the most used AI chatbot, but it isn't the top scored one. On 31 October 2026 its US App Store listing had 4.8 stars from 12M ratings and sat at #2 in Productivity. Gemini had 2.4M ratings and Claude had 291K. On Text Arena, the best entry from OpenAI is GPT-5.6 Sol, in 22nd place. The newer GPT-6.1 Sol is 27th.

It still wins at everyday use. The app is free, and its listing names "Image generation" and "Advanced Voice Mode," so it can talk with you and draw for you. Go is $8.00 and Plus is $19.99 in the App Store. If you would rather have the favorite of the blind test, Google AI Pro costs the same $19.99.

What is the best free AI chatbot?

Gemini is the best free AI chatbot. When we read Google's plan page on 31 October 2026, it listed the Flash-Lite model, "Image generation and editing", Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas and Gems on the free plan. All it says about limits is "Rate limits may apply."

DeepSeek is the free pick for people who don't want to be sold anything. Its App Store listing has no paid plans at all, and the best DeepSeek entry on the board, V4.1 Flash, is 35th. Meta AI is free as well, and its listing says it's "built with Muse Spark." The best entry from that family is 11th. For files, the free plan to pick is Claude's. Whizi has the thinnest free tier here: 10 messages a day on Whizi AI, Auto or Claude Haiku 5.5, and 2 pictures a month.

Which AI chatbot is best for research with sources?

Perplexity is the best AI chatbot for research, and its App Store listing promises "Cited sources for every answer." Its model list, a snapshot as of 27 October 2026, puts GPT-6.1 Sol, Claude Sonnet 5.5, Gemini 3.8 Flash and Grok 4.7 on Pro at $20.00, with a few others. The best ranked of them is Gemini 3.8 Flash, at 10th.

The two best models you can buy cost a lot more there. Claude Opus 5.5 and Gemini 4 Argon wait on Max, and Max is $200.00 in the App Store. That's ten times the price of Pro for the models in 2nd and 3rd place. If you're there for the citations, Pro is enough.

Which chatbots win only inside one company's world?

Copilot, Grok and Meta AI are at their best where you already spend your day. Microsoft sells Copilot as Microsoft 365 plans in the App Store, from Basic at $1.99 up to Premium at $19.99. Its listing says that you can choose between "leading AI models," but it doesn't say which ones.

Grok is the chatbot that's built into X. SuperGrok Lite is $10.00, SuperGrok is $30.00 and SuperGrok Heavy is $300.00. On Text Arena, the best xAI entry is 40th, below all six labs in the top 25. Meta's strongest model, Muse Wonder, is 4th, but it lives in a separate app called Muse. CNBC reported on 12 October 2026 that you need a monthly plan of $20 or $100 for Wonder, and Meta's help page lists Power at $20 a month and Maximum at $100.

Workflow checklist
  • Start on Gemini's or Claude's free plan before you pay for anything
  • Pick by job: Claude for writing and files, Perplexity for sources, ChatGPT for voice and images
  • Check which plan carries the model you want: Claude Opus 5.5 is on Claude Pro but on Perplexity Max
  • Add up your chatbot bills before you buy one plan with several labs. It pays off once you'd pay for two
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the smartest AI chatbot right now?

Gemini is, on blind votes. Google's Gemini 4 Carbon tops Text Arena at 1528 on the board of 27 October 2026, but it's marked preliminary and isn't on sale. Gemini 4 Argon, 2nd at 1520, is the top model you can buy, on Google AI Pro at $19.99 in the App Store.

Is Claude better than ChatGPT?

On blind votes, yes, by a little. Claude Opus 5.5 scores 1509 and GPT-5.6 Sol 1485, about 53 wins in 100 for Claude. ChatGPT has far more users, with 12M US App Store ratings to Claude's 291K, and its listing names image generation, which Anthropic's pricing page doesn't list for Claude.

Is there one chatbot with ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini?

Yes. Whizi, Poe and Perplexity each reach all three labs. Whizi Pro carries Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-5.6 Sol and Gemini 3.8 Flash for $29.99 a month on the web. Poe starts at $4.99 but listed no Opus 5.5 on 31 October 2026. Perplexity Pro is $20.00 and keeps Claude Opus for Max at $200.00.

Do you need to pay for an AI chatbot?

No. Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT, DeepSeek and Meta AI all have free versions, and Gemini's covers images, Deep Research and Gemini Live. Pay when you hit the free limit every week. Buy one plan with several labs only if you'd otherwise pay for two chatbots.
