Grok student discount: xAI lists no student price, and Plus is $8 a month

In brief

No. xAI has no student price as of November 2026, so students pay $8 a month for Plus or $30 for Premium, and grok.com sells any new customer Premium's first month at half price. Its one student offer was two free months of SuperGrok for .edu sign-ups, posted on X on 9 April 2025.

Does Grok have a student discount?

No. xAI's pricing docs list five tiers of The X Subscription on 2 November 2026, and none is priced for students. The docs say "New self-serve customers choose from The X Subscription plans." The one price cut is for everyone: the grok.com plans page we opened that day showed "50% off for 1 month" on monthly Premium, Super and Ultra. Plus and annual billing had no offer. Here's what each tier costs a new student, at US list prices before tax. The last column is nine months, September to May, paid month by month.

We also searched xAI's whole documentation index that day. None of its 266 lines names students, schools or discounts. The Grok FAQ doesn't either. Premium is the old SuperGrok in a new box: xAI's 12 October announcement sells it as "The benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro, and X Premium+, previously $90/month combined." The chart shows every student route xAI has run since March 2025, beside the two rival offers of this school year. Orange points are still open on 2 November 2026.

What was the free SuperGrok offer for students?

It was two free months of SuperGrok for anyone who signed up at grok.com with a .edu email. Arno, then Grok's web lead at xAI, posted it on X on 9 April 2025: "Students get SuperGrok from grok.com for free for 2 months when you sign up with a .edu email. Good luck with finals." Elon Musk quoted the post an hour and a half later: "SuperGrok is free for students". By 2 November 2026 the two posts showed 66.5 million and 63.4 million views.

That was the whole announcement. We found no xAI news post, pricing line or help article that gave terms, a country list or an end date. The .edu rule left most of the world out. dev.ua reported on 10 April 2025 that UK students, whose school emails end in .ac.uk, asked whether they counted. It said an "edu equivalent" for other countries was planned. No such route shows up in xAI's docs today.

If you used a school email back then, check your sign-in now. xAI's FAQ covers it: "If you've lost access to your original address (e.g. a university email after graduation), sign in with a new personal email / Google / X account and link it at accounts.x.ai." Do it before you graduate. A subscription stays tied to the account that bought it.

Is Grok free for students?

Grok is free for everyone, students included, on the Free tier. xAI's announcement lists "Daily access to Grok, a starter allowance for Cursor's coding agents, and standard X" at $0. That's the same deal a student gets anywhere. The limits are real, though. xAI words free usage only as "Limited", and it publishes no daily number.

Paid users keep that floor too. The FAQ says that after a paid weekly pool runs out, "You will still have access to Grok's free tier limits on Chat and Voice." So a student on Plus who burns through the week isn't locked out.

One country gets Grok through its schools. On 11 December 2025 xAI and El Salvador's government announced a program to put Grok in "more than 5,000 public schools" over two years, "delivering personalized learning to over one million students." It's a national program for public school pupils there. It isn't a discount anyone else can claim.

Is there a Grok student discount in the UK, India or Canada?

No. xAI has no student price in any country as of November 2026. The April 2025 offer keyed on a .edu address, which is mostly a US domain, and nothing has replaced it. UK, Indian and Canadian students pay the same tiers as everyone else, in local currency. Opened from Canada on 2 November 2026, the plans page showed Premium at CA$41.99 a month, or CA$21 for the first month. Your total can still differ from the list price, because xAI's docs say "Where required, tax may be added at checkout." What is SuperGrok lists the old plans that still bill existing subscribers.

Students outside the US have better offers from other companies. Google's student page says "Redeem until December 31, 2026" for a free year, and the plan depends on your country. Perplexity sells Education Pro to students "at a discount" after a SheerID check.

What is the cheapest way for a student to pay for Grok?

The cheapest paid Grok is Plus at $8 a month, bought only for the months you study. Here's the order, as of November 2026:

  1. Grok Free, at $0. Use it until the limits get in your way.
  2. Plus, month to month in term. Nine months cost $72.
  3. Plus billed yearly, at $80. It only beats monthly if you'd pay for 10 months or more.
  4. Premium, month to month. The first month is $15, so nine months cost $255, against $300 for the year.
  5. Super or Ultra, from $100 a month, for 15x or 50x Plus usage across Grok and Cursor.

Ten months of Plus is $80, the annual price, so Plus breaks even at 10 months. Premium's cheap first month pushes its line out. Ten months cost $285 and eleven cost $315, so the $300 year only wins at 11 months. A student who stops paying in May saves $8 on Plus and $45 on Premium by skipping the annual plan. Our SuperGrok free trial page checks the $15 month against eight other cheap routes. Is SuperGrok worth it weighs what Premium adds over Plus.

Other companies have run real student deals, all with deadlines. OpenAI's four free months of ChatGPT Plus could be claimed until 31 October 2026, per its help page. That one's gone. Google's free year is open until 31 December. Our Gemini student discount page has the country rules, and the AI student discounts table covers 13 tools.

Whizi, which publishes this page, has no student price either. It carries Grok 4.6 and Grok 4.7 on Pro at $29.99 a month, at 6 credits a message, so 2,500 credits buy 416 Grok messages next to Claude, GPT and Gemini (Grok in Whizi). Starter has no Grok at all. Whizi loses on everything around the chat: no Imagine video, no Grok Bot and no live X feed. If Grok is all you want, Plus at $8 is the better buy.

Workflow checklist
  • Start on Grok Free and only pay once the limits stop your work
  • Pay month to month in term; the annual plan only wins at 10 months on Plus and 11 on Premium
  • If you signed up with a school email, link a personal email at accounts.x.ai before you graduate
  • Claim a deal from another company first if you qualify, like Google's free year before 31 December 2026
  • Ignore any "Grok student code" sold online; xAI's docs list no student code or plan
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Grok student discount code?

No. xAI's pricing docs, its Grok FAQ and its documentation index mention no student code, coupon or student plan as of November 2026. The only cut grok.com shows is half off the first month of Premium, Super or Ultra, and it needs no code. A code sold on a coupon site isn't xAI's. A shared "student" login from a marketplace leaves the seller in control of your account and your chats.

Does a .edu email still get SuperGrok free?

Not by any route xAI documents. The two free months were announced in a 9 April 2025 post with no terms page, and xAI's pricing docs on 2 November 2026 say new customers choose from The X Subscription plans, none of them for students. Without a documented offer, plan on paying list price.

Does SuperGrok Heavy have a student discount?

No. No tier has one. New buyers get The X Subscription instead, and its top tier, Ultra, is $200 a month or $2,000 a year with no student price. xAI's docs say existing SuperGrok plans "continue unless you change or cancel them."
