What are the Perplexity Pro limits, pool by pool?
Perplexity Pro meters seven things and leaves one mode unmetered, and that mode is the fix when a wall appears: switch the search box to Best, which Perplexity's What is Perplexity Pro page says "is available without quota limits". Every cell below is Perplexity's own wording from its plan comparison (last modified 5 September 2026) and its credits page (8 September 2026), for the $20 consumer Pro plan, as of October 2026.
| What is metered | Pro allowance, in Perplexity's words | Refills | Free | Enterprise Pro ($40 a seat) | When it runs out |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro Search | "Weekly limits (average use)" | weekly | 3 a day | 400 a week | Switch to Best, which has no quota |
| Picking an advanced model | "access may be limited during weeks of especially heavy usage" | not stated | no access | yes, no number | Best, or a standard model |
| Research (Deep Research) | "Monthly limits (average use)" | monthly | 1 a month | 50 a month | Pro Search with a Thinking model |
| Create files and apps (was Labs) | "Limited amount" every 30 days | every 30 days | none | 50 a month | Get the content in Pro Search, build the file yourself |
| Comet Assistant | "Monthly limits (average use)" | monthly | none | 80 a month | Ask the question in a Perplexity tab |
| File upload sessions | "Weekly limits (average use)", up to 50 files per Project | weekly | "Limited" | 100 a week | Paste the passage as text |
| Computer credits | no monthly credits; a 4,000 bonus once, expiring in 30 days | never | none | a set monthly amount | Dismiss the credits prompt and use Ask |
Read the Enterprise Pro column as the nearest printed yardstick, not your allowance. It's Perplexity's business seat at $40 a month, and it's the only paid tier in the table that gets numbers; consumer Pro says "average use" in every metered row, and Max at $200 says "advanced use". Two rows behave unlike the rest. Advanced model access can tighten in a busy week even when your Pro Search count is not spent. And Computer credits never refill on Pro: the bonus arrives once, then Perplexity sells 100 credits for $1, with a light task using 15 to 70 of them.
How many Pro Searches does Perplexity Pro give you per day?
None per day: Pro Search on Perplexity Pro is a weekly pool, and the only figures in code are 200 and 300 a week, about 28 to 43 a day if spread evenly. Reddit users quoted by Android Authority in May 2026 put it nearer 100 to 150. Perplexity doesn't print a number. Nobody counted the 200 and 300, either. They're constants hardcoded in two open source trackers, Perplexity Usage Panel and Perplexity Limit Extension, both created on GitHub on 19 March 2026. Each reads Perplexity's own usage feed at perplexity.ai/rest/rate-limit/all. That feed returns four fields: remaining_pro, remaining_research, remaining_labs and remaining_agentic_research. Each one is what you have left, with no total beside it. The only totals either tracker reads from the feed are monthly_limit values for connected sources such as Slack or Google Drive. So each tracker writes in the cap it assumes, and they disagree. Limit Extension's own source calls its figures "estimates".
The two trackers split on the monthly pools too, and on what the fourth field means. Usage Panel assumes 20 Research and 25 Labs runs and shows remaining_agentic_research as "Agentic" with no total. Limit Extension assumes 50 and 50, labels the fourth field "Deep Research" and caps it at 5. A third tracker, Usage & Model Watcher, gives the "Deep Research" label to remaining_research instead, and it stopped guessing. Its README says it shows only the remaining count until "your cycle resets and the remaining value increases", then infers the cap from the jump. That's the honest method, and the only one that tells you your own number.
Your cap may also differ from the next subscriber's. In May 2026 Android Authority rounded up Reddit posts from Pro subscribers who hit the advanced model limit early. One of them, SuppliDev, said it came after three to five requests a day. The upsell they saw read "Get enhanced access to advanced models with Perplexity Max." A Perplexity spokesperson told Android Authority on 19 May 2026 that "some users are seeing different usage limits because their accounts are tied to promotional-code offers". The company said it had adjusted enforcement over fraud and resale of those codes. If your Pro came from a partner offer or a reseller and your week ends on Tuesday, write to support before paying for Max.
Two printed numbers frame the pool. Free gets 3 Pro Searches a day, 21 a week. Education Pro, the $10 student plan, is described on the same help page as including "unlimited Pro Searches", while the table a few lines lower gives it "Weekly limits (average use)", the same cell as Pro. Whether a pool that size is worth $20 to you is what is Perplexity Pro worth it works out.
When does the Perplexity Pro limit reset?
Perplexity Pro limits reset on four clocks: weekly for Pro Search and upload sessions, monthly for Research and Comet Assistant, every 30 days for Create files and apps, and never for the Computer credit bonus. Perplexity publishes the period of each, not the day or hour, and none of the three trackers reads a reset time from the feed. Nobody outside Perplexity can tell you "Tuesday at 9".
What you can see, and where:
- Credits: perplexity.ai/account/usage shows your Bonus, Plan and Purchased credit balances, a breakdown by thread, and the auto-refill switch, which is off unless you turn it on.
- One Computer task: the "Usage" dropdown inside that thread shows the credits it used.
- Pro Search, Research and Labs: Perplexity's help center documents no counter for these. The trackers above show them, but each one runs with your Perplexity session cookies, so read its code before installing it.
- No tracker: write down the date you hit a weekly wall. The pool is weekly by Perplexity's own label, so the longest wait is seven days, and the day it returns tells you your reset day from then on.
Free Pro Search is the one daily clock: 3 a day. A free account that hits it is back the next day, which is a faster refill than Pro's, on a much smaller pool.
What are the Perplexity Pro Deep Research limits?
Perplexity Pro's Deep Research limit is a monthly pool that Perplexity describes only as "Monthly limits (average use)", and the counts reported for it since February 2026 run from 20 runs a month down to four. MakeUseOf reported on 21 February 2026 that Deep Research went from roughly 500 to 600 queries a day to 20 a month, or "only four per month" on some accounts, the writer's own among them. In the same piece Labs fell from 50 to 25 a month and file uploads from unlimited to 50 a week. Usage Panel's caps a month later, 20 Research and 25 Labs, match those numbers. Which feed field holds Deep Research is still contested: Limit Extension puts it on remaining_agentic_research with a cap of 5, while Usage & Model Watcher puts it on remaining_research.
Perplexity's explanation is still on its Advanced Deep Research page in the 15 September 2026 version: "Usage limits have been adjusted to allocate more computing power per session". Each run is now heavier. Pro runs on what Perplexity calls 4.5 Thinking, Max on Opus 4.6 Thinking, and a broad query gets clarifying questions before the run starts.
Twenty runs a month rewards a different habit than 500 a day did. Put the scope in the first message (dates, region, sources to prefer or skip) and answer the clarifying questions fully. Send anything a handful of sources would settle to Pro Search with a Thinking model instead, which spends the weekly pool and leaves the monthly one alone. Labs, now called Create files and apps, follows the same logic on its own 30 day clock.
What is the Perplexity Pro file upload limit?
Each file can be up to 40 MB, a Project takes up to 50 uploads on Pro, and upload sessions sit in a weekly pool Perplexity again labels only "average use". The 40 MB cap is on Perplexity's File Uploads page (archived copy of 22 July 2026), and the 50 per Project is the Pro line on the plan page. MakeUseOf's February count was 50 uploads a week. During the May enforcement, a Reddit user Android Authority quoted, KhoaHachiman7, reached the weekly file upload limit after two uploads.
When the upload pool is empty, paste the passage you need as text. The plan table meters upload sessions, not the length of what you type. Perplexity's two pages disagree on how many files a Project holds (50 on the plan page, 5,000 on the Projects page), which Perplexity Pro vs ChatGPT Plus sets out; the Settings tab of a Project shows the number your account has.
Which plan prints a number you can plan around?
Enterprise Pro is the cheapest Perplexity plan with numbers on it, from $40 a seat a month: 400 Pro Searches a week, 50 Research runs, 80 Comet Assistant queries and 50 file creations a month. Max at $200 a month raises Pro's limits to "advanced use" and still prints no number for them; what it does print is 10,000 Computer credits a month. If you need Perplexity's research tools and a known allowance, Enterprise Pro is the only answer Perplexity sells.
The other route is a plan outside Perplexity that prints its own number. Whizi Pro is $29.99 a month for 2,500 credits a month, and Perplexity's Sonar Pro is one of its models at 20 credits an answer, with web search on by default in every new chat (how Whizi credits work). That's 125 Sonar Pro answers a month, far less search than the 200 or more a week the trackers assume for Perplexity Pro. Whizi's Deep Research runs in the web app at 200 credits a run (when credits run out). So Pro's 2,500 credits buy 12 runs if spent on nothing else, against the 20 a month MakeUseOf reported for Perplexity Pro. If your week is mostly searching or research runs, stay on Perplexity Pro. Whizi fits the reader whose search turns into drafting on GPT, Claude or Gemini in the same thread, where an answer can come back as a real Excel or Word file.
- Wall on Pro Search: switch the search box to Best, which Perplexity runs without a quota
- Prompt to add credits: you started a Computer task or Comet Work mode; dismiss it and use Ask, which uses no credits
- Pro from a partner offer or reseller code and the week runs out in days: contact Perplexity support before paying for Max
- Before a Research run, put the dates, region and preferred sources in the first message and answer its clarifying questions
- Upload pool empty: paste the passage as text instead of attaching the file
- Note the date you hit a weekly wall; the pool returns within seven days and that date is your reset day
Frequently asked questions
Does Perplexity Pro have unlimited searches?
Only in Best mode. Perplexity's help center says Best "is available without quota limits", while Pro Search, Research, Create files and apps, Comet Assistant and uploads are all capped. Pro Search sits on a weekly pool that two open source trackers assume holds 200 or 300 searches, since Perplexity prints no number. Education Pro is described as "unlimited Pro Searches" in its text and "Weekly limits" in its table.
Why is my Perplexity Pro limit lower than other people's?
Usually because the account came from a promotional code. A Perplexity spokesperson told Android Authority on 19 May 2026 that some users see different limits "because their accounts are tied to promotional-code offers", after enforcement was adjusted over fraud and resale of those codes. Its Pro page adds that advanced model access "may be limited during weeks of especially heavy usage". Support can check the first; the second passes with the week.
What happens when you run out of Perplexity Computer credits?
Running Computer tasks pause rather than cancel, your work is saved, and new tasks that need credits are blocked until you buy more, at 100 credits for $1. Pro gets no monthly credits after its one 4,000 credit bonus, which expires in 30 days. Ask searches use no credits, so ordinary searching keeps working with a zero balance.
Can I get a refund if I hit the limit right after paying for Pro?
Only inside Perplexity's window: 24 hours after a monthly purchase or 72 hours after an annual one, longer in the EU, UK, Turkey, South Korea and Brazil, per its refunds page modified 24 September 2026. Hitting a limit is not a listed reason, so decide on the first day. How to get a refund for Perplexity Pro has the exact path.
