How to cancel Google AI Ultra, and why YouTube Premium and your 20 TB end with it

In brief

Cancel Google AI Ultra at one.google.com: open Settings, choose Cancel membership and confirm. Google ends the plan at the close of your billing cycle, and with it YouTube Premium and the 20 TB of storage, which falls to the free 15 GB. To keep 5 TB, downgrade to Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month instead.

What ends when you cancel Google AI Ultra?

Three things end with Google AI Ultra, and two aren't AI. Google's cancel page says that after you cancel, "You'll lose access to premium subscriptions, like Google Home Premium, Google Health Premium, and YouTube Premium." Ultra is the only Google AI plan with the full YouTube Premium individual plan, so that line hits Ultra hardest. The second loss is storage. Google's US plans page, read on 25 October 2026, gives Ultra "Cloud storage starting at 20 TB", and a cancelled account keeps up to 15 GB at no charge. The third is Flow, where Ultra's 10,000 or 25,000 monthly credits stop.

That's a cut of more than 99.9% on cancel day. Twenty terabytes is 20,000 GB, and 15 GB is about one part in 1,333 of it. Anyone storing more than 5 TB will be over quota even on AI Pro, so the downgrade only saves your files if you're under that line.

Prices, storage and YouTube rows come from Google's US plans page and the Flow column from Google's Flow credits page, both read on 25 October 2026. Google writes the 20x tier's storage only as "starting at 20 TB", so we haven't put a bigger number on it.

How do I cancel Google AI Ultra?

You cancel Google AI Ultra the same way you cancel any Google One plan, from whichever store billed you. Most people bought it from Google directly, and for them it takes a minute on a computer:

  1. Go to one.google.com and check the account in the top corner is the one that pays.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Select Cancel membership.
  4. Confirm with Cancel membership again, and wait for the message that your subscription is cancelled.

On an Android phone, Google's steps are: open the Google One app, tap Menu, Settings, Cancel membership, then tap Cancel membership to confirm. The Gemini app itself has no cancel button. It's a Google One plan, so the cancel lives in Google One.

App Store on iPhone or iPadApp Store app, your name, Subscriptions, Google OneRefunds go to Apple support, not Google

App Store buyers have one extra step. Google tells them to cancel in Apple's Subscriptions screen and then go to myaccount.google.com/deleteservices to "Cancel and delete your current plan." Work accounts are different again. In Google's Workspace help, updated 22 October 2026, the admin cancels under Billing, Subscriptions, and "You must be signed in as a super administrator for this task."

Should you downgrade to Google AI Pro instead of cancelling?

Downgrading to Google AI Pro is the better move for anyone who stores more than 15 GB or watches YouTube daily. AI Pro is $19.99 a month in the US and keeps 5 TB, YouTube Premium Lite, 1,000 Flow credits and "Access to Gemini 4 Argon", per Google's plans page on 25 October 2026. Ultra's "Highest access" to the same models is the part you give up.

Google's plan change page gives the route: one.google.com, Manage membership, Change membership plan, then pick a plan under "Downgrade options" and confirm. Google keeps your current plan active until the end of your billing cycle and starts the downgrade with the next one. You don't lose a day of Ultra by switching early.

The YouTube math is simple. Lite is "Most videos ad-free", not all of them. If you want full Premium back, YouTube charges new US subscribers $15.99 a month since April 2026, per 9to5Google. AI Pro plus standalone Premium is $35.98. That's $64.01 a month under Ultra's $99.99 tier, and $164.01 under the $199.99 one. Google's plans page also warns that Lite "won't activate if you already have an equivalent or YouTube Premium subscription". AI Pro's price doesn't drop when that happens, so the Lite you pay for inside it just sits unused.

What happens to your files after you cancel?

Google deletes nothing when Ultra ends, but an account over 15 GB freezes. Its storage policy page lists what stops: no new uploads to Drive, no new backups to Google Photos, Gmail may stop sending and receiving, and no new Docs, Sheets or Slides. It also says "nobody can edit or copy your affected files" until you cut usage. You can still sign in and download everything.

Deletion is a two-year clock. Google's rule is that after you're over quota "for 2 years or longer", all content in your Google Account may be removed, and it promises: "We will contact you at least 3 months before content is eligible for deletion." On a 20 TB account that clock matters most, so start any download early.

Your family group feels it too. The cancel page says "You and your family members will lose access to your additional storage", and each person falls back to their own 15 GB. Tell them before the end date, because their over-quota freeze starts the same day as yours.

What happens to YouTube Premium and Flow credits?

Ultra's YouTube Premium ends with the plan because Google bills it inside the membership. The YouTube offer terms, last updated 19 August 2026, say "Your YouTube Premium subscription is managed and billed through your Google One membership." The same terms say a YouTube Premium membership you bought outside Google One is managed in YouTube's own settings, so cancelling Ultra doesn't touch that one.

Flow credits don't carry over. Google's Flow page says "Unused monthly Google Flow credits do not roll over to the next month", so spend this month's 10,000 or 25,000 before the cycle ends. Top-up credits are different: Google says they "may expire after a certain period, as set out when you acquire them". It doesn't say whether they survive a cancel. If you set up auto-reload, cancel it on its own: open the AI credits page in Google One, select Manage next to Auto-reload, then Cancel plan.

Can you get a refund for Google AI Ultra?

You usually can't get money back for the month you're in. Google's plans page states "Cancel anytime. No refunds for partial billing periods, except as required by applicable law", and its cancel page adds "In most countries or regions, Google storage plan purchases are non-refundable." At $99.99 or $199.99 a cycle, that's why timing the cancel to the renewal date is worth a calendar reminder.

Play Store purchases follow Google Play's refund policy, and App Store buyers ask Apple. Charges after a confirmed cancel, double billing and EU or UK cooling-off rights are the usual exceptions, covered in the AI subscription refunds guide. One more catch if you joined on an offer: Google's terms say promotions "may no longer be available should you cancel and subsequently decide to sign up again."

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Does cancelling Google AI Ultra cancel YouTube Premium?

Yes. Google bills Ultra's YouTube Premium inside the Google One membership, and its cancel page says you'll lose access to YouTube Premium when the billing cycle ends. A YouTube Premium plan you bought on its own stays active. Is Google AI Ultra worth it prices what Premium adds to the plan.

When does Google AI Ultra stop after I cancel?

At the end of your current billing cycle. Google's words are "You have until the end of the billing cycle to use them", so Ultra, its storage and YouTube Premium keep working until that date. Metro by T-Mobile plans end at once. The same timing applies to the cheaper plan in how to cancel Google AI Pro.

Can I get a refund if I cancel Google AI Ultra?

Usually not for a partial month. Google says "No refunds for partial billing periods, except as required by applicable law." Play Store and App Store buyers follow those stores' own refund rules. How to get a refund for Google AI Pro walks through each path, and they're the same for Ultra.

Will Google delete my files if I cancel Google AI Ultra?

No, not at cancel time. Files over 15 GB are frozen, not deleted, and Google only removes content after two years over quota, with at least three months' notice. Downgrading keeps 5 TB, and how to downgrade Google AI Pro shows the same Change membership plan screen one tier lower.
