Grok image generation limit: one weekly pool, no image count, and guides 20x apart

In brief

Grok has no published image generation limit on any plan. As of October 2026, xAI meters images inside one weekly usage pool, shown as a percentage in Settings > Usage, and marks Imagine as "Limited" on the free plan. Four page-one guides put SuperGrok at 10 to 200 images a day, and none links an xAI page with that number.

A brushed silver Grok logo, a clipped stack of blank white photo prints, a frosted hourglass with sand running through it and a chrome dial with no numbers on its face, each on a black plinth in a charcoal studio with white rim light.

How many images can you generate with Grok?

xAI doesn't publish a number. Its pricing page, its grok.com checkout and its Grok FAQ, all read on 18 October 2026, give no image count for any plan. On paid plans, images come out of the same weekly pool as chat, voice and coding. Here's what each plan on sale today gets, in xAI's own words:

PlanPrice a monthImage generation (Imagine)Video generationUsage xAI prints
Free$0"Limited"Not included"Limited"
Plus$8IncludedNot included"Shared AI usage pool", the base for every multiple
Premium$30"Make stunning AI images & videos"Included"4x more usage compared to Plus"
Super$100Included, "Faster responses & generations"Included, "Create 1080p videos""15x more usage compared to Plus"
Ultra$200Included, "Fastest responses & generations"Included"50x more usage compared to Plus"

Premium took SuperGrok's place on 12 October 2026, when xAI launched The X Subscription. People who already pay for SuperGrok, Lite or Heavy can keep those plans, and they run on the same weekly pool. That pool is why the old daily image numbers are gone. The FAQ explains the switch: "Previously, each Grok product had its own daily limits. This often meant running out of usage in one product (for example, Imagine) while still having usage left in another (for example, Chat)."

As of 18 October 2026, none of those four guides links to an xAI page that states an image count. Jin Grey sends readers to an xAI limits page that now returns a 404. Three of the six guides we read sell image generation of their own. The top estimate is 20 times the bottom one, for the same $30 plan.

Why do Grok image limit numbers disagree so much?

They describe a system xAI has since replaced, and none of them came from xAI. We read every guide below on 18 October 2026:

GuideDatedFree planSuperGrok, $30Reset it describesxAI source for the count

Five guides give five different reset clocks. That's the giveaway. The oldest dates from August 2025, and three were written in June 2026, the month xAI's FAQ gives for the weekly pool: "Rolling out in June 2026". All six predate The X Subscription. Atlas Cloud also writes that "SuperGrok officially advertises 200 images per day", but it links no xAI page for it, and none of the three xAI pages we read says so.

So treat any daily Grok image count as one person's report. It isn't a rule. The only image number xAI does publish is a price, on its developer API.

When does the Grok image limit reset?

On a paid plan, the image limit resets once a week, at the date and time shown in Settings > Usage. xAI's FAQ says the pool "resets every week on a schedule shown in the Usage tab in Settings." That tab, on the web and in the apps, shows a percentage bar, a breakdown by product (API, Build, Chat, Imagine and Voice) and your reset date. If Imagine leads the breakdown, your images used up the week.

Images stop when the pool runs out. The FAQ says "paid features will pause until your weekly limit resets." You keep Grok's free limits on Chat and Voice, which reset "on their own schedule". Imagine isn't named among them. xAI publishes no hour or window for the free plan's Imagine allowance either.

If the reset date has passed and the bar still reads full, xAI's FAQ says to "contact support through the app or grok.com". Take a screenshot of the Usage tab first. It shows the date you were promised.

Is Grok image generation free?

Yes, in a limited way. xAI's pricing grid, read on 18 October 2026, marks image generation "Limited" on the $0 plan and leaves video out. It gives no count. The free plan's card lists only "Limited Chat requests" and "Limited agent requests".

Free images have come and gone during 2026. In January, Grok on X began replying that "Image generation and editing are currently limited to paying subscribers," after a backlash over sexualized deepfakes, the Associated Press reported. The same report found the tool still free on the standalone Grok website and app. RoboRhythms, updated 17 September 2026, reports that free generation on grok.com stopped around 19 March and came back for some accounts on 21 August. Some were cut to zero again from 5 September. xAI hasn't confirmed those dates.

On X, the two bills are now one. Plus at $8 includes Imagine and the X Premium checkmark, and xAI says the shared pool "covers Grok models whether you use them in the Grok apps, the Grok tab on X, or Cursor."

What can you do when the Grok image limit is reached?

You have four options, and only waiting is free. xAI itself says which of the paid ones is cheaper:

  1. Buy Extra Usage Credits. They start at $5, from the Usage tab on the web only, and expire a year after purchase. xAI warns that "the cost per action is higher than the effective rate you get from the included weekly usage in your plan."
  2. Move up a plan. Premium at $30 gets four times the Plus pool for 3.75 times the price, and it's the first plan with video. xAI's FAQ says upgrading "provides significantly more weekly usage at a lower cost per action".
  3. Use the xAI API. As of October 2026, xAI lists grok-imagine-image at $0.02 an image, Image 2.0 from $0.04 and the quality model from $0.05 on its API pricing page. So $5 of API spend buys 250 images on the base model, 125 on Image 2.0 or 100 on quality. API usage "doesn't draw from your plan's usage pool", and a new account gets 6 image requests a second, per xAI's rate limits page. You'll need a developer account and a little code.
  4. Wait for the reset. It costs nothing, and the date is already in Settings > Usage.

Another app works when the picture matters more than the model. ChatGPT image generation limit covers what OpenAI caps. Whizi, which publishes this page, prints its count: Pro at $29.99 a month includes 100 images a month on Whizi Image, Nano Banana, Flux and Stable Diffusion, and Powerhouse includes 500 (image generation in Whizi). Where it loses: there's no Grok Imagine model, Starter at $15.99 makes no images, and the 100 refill once a month, not once a week.

Workflow checklist
  • Open Settings > Usage and check whether Imagine leads the product breakdown
  • Note your weekly reset date and time; free limits run on their own schedule
  • Buy Extra Usage Credits from $5 on the web if you cannot wait for the reset
  • Move to a bigger plan if the pool runs out every week, since xAI prices it lower per action
  • Use the xAI API at $0.02 an image for volume work outside the weekly pool
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Does Grok have a daily image limit?

Not on a paid plan. Since xAI's June 2026 change, SuperGrok and the newer Plus, Premium, Super and Ultra plans draw images from one weekly pool, shown as a percentage in Settings > Usage. The free plan gets an Imagine allowance xAI calls "Limited", with no published number or reset time. Is SuperGrok worth it weighs what each paid tier buys.

Do failed Grok generations count against the limit?

xAI doesn't say. Atlas Cloud reports that failed generations count, citing an xAI support email. On 6 May 2026, PiunikaWeb reported SuperGrok subscribers using up their 720p video quota after 10 to 20 generations, failed attempts included. Neither claim appears on an xAI page. If moderation keeps eating your week, the Grok alternatives guide covers other places to go.

Can you remove the watermark from Grok images?

No. xAI's FAQ says "Generated images and videos include a Grok watermark" and "There is no setting to remove the watermark." It adds that removing or obscuring it is prohibited under xAI's Acceptable Use Policy. Best AI image generators compares the tools that compete with Grok Imagine.

Does X Premium give you more Grok images?

On the new plans, X Premium and Grok are one bill. As of October 2026, Plus at $8 includes Imagine and the X checkmark, and Premium at $30 bundles what xAI calls "the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro, and X Premium+". Older X Premium plans keep their terms. If you're paying X and xAI separately, how to cancel SuperGrok shows which bill is which.
