How much is the Canada child benefit for July 2026 to June 2027, and how fast does it phase out?

Canadian CPA

For July 2026 to June 2027, the Canada child benefit pays up to $8,157 a year per child under 6 and $6,883 per child aged 6 to 17. Payments are based on 2025 adjusted family net income. The benefit starts shrinking once that income passes $38,237, then shrinks at a lower second rate above $82,847.

What are the CCB maximums for July 2026 to June 2027?

The maximum CCB for July 2026 to June 2027 is $8,157 a year ($679.75 a month) per child under 6 and $6,883 a year ($573.58 a month) per child aged 6 to 17. A family gets the full amount only when its 2025 adjusted family net income (AFNI) is $38,237 or less canada.ca.

FigureJuly 2026 to June 2027July 2025 to June 2026
Base year (income used)20252024
Maximum per child under 6$8,157$7,997
Maximum per child aged 6 to 17$6,883$6,748
First reduction threshold (AFNI)$38,237$37,487
Second reduction threshold (AFNI)$82,847$81,222
Child disability benefit, per eligible child$3,480$3,411

The prior year figures come from the CRA's base year 2024 table canada.ca. The federal release put the increase at up to $160 per child under 6 and $135 per child aged 6 to 17, paid tax free canada.ca. Every dollar amount moves each July with the Consumer Price Index under subsection 122.61(5) of the Income Tax Act laws-lois.justice.gc.ca.

How fast does the CCB phase out as family income rises?

The reduction depends on AFNI and on how many children are in your client's care. Between $38,237 and $82,847 it's a flat percentage of the income over $38,237. Above $82,847 it's a fixed dollar amount plus a lower percentage of the income over $82,847 canada.ca.

Children in careAFNI $38,237 to $82,847AFNI above $82,847
One7% of income over $38,237$3,123 plus 3.2% of income over $82,847
Two13.5% of income over $38,237$6,022 plus 5.7% of income over $82,847
Three19% of income over $38,237$8,476 plus 8% of income over $82,847
Four or more23% of income over $38,237$10,260 plus 9.5% of income over $82,847

The fixed amounts are just the first tier run to its end: 13.5% of the $44,610 band is $6,022. Because the second tier rates are low, high earners keep a real benefit. The CRA's own example has a family with four children over 6 and AFNI of $200,000 still getting $6,142.47 for the year canada.ca.

AFNI is family net income (your client plus a spouse or common law partner) minus any universal child care benefit and RDSP income received, plus any of those amounts repaid, so a spouse's income counts in full canada.ca. Who counts as a spouse is its own question; see common law partner rules.

What does a family with two children and $95,000 of income get?

Take a couple with children aged 4 and 8 whose combined 2025 net income was $95,000, with no universal child care benefit. Two children, AFNI above $82,847, so the second tier applies.

StepAmount
Maximum: $8,157 (under 6) plus $6,883 (aged 6 to 17)$15,040.00
Income over second threshold: $95,000 less $82,847$12,153
Variable part: 5.7% of $12,153$692.72
Total reduction: $6,022 plus $692.72$6,714.72
Annual CCB: $15,040.00 less $6,714.72$8,325.28
Monthly payment: $8,325.28 divided by 12about $693.77

Check it against the federal release: one child aged 5, one aged 9 and AFNI of $65,000 gives $15,040 less 13.5% of $26,763, or $11,426.99, which the government rounds to about $11,430 for July 2026 to June 2027 canada.ca.

When are the 2026 CCB payment dates?

Most CCB payments land on the 20th, but in 2026 the June, September and December payments come earlier canada.ca.

MarchMarch 20

If the yearly amount works out to less than $20 a month, the CRA pays the whole July 2026 to June 2027 entitlement as one lump sum, issued on or after July 20, 2026 canada.ca. The Act builds that in at subsection 122.61(2) laws-lois.justice.gc.ca. The CRA asks recipients to wait 5 working days after a payment date before calling about a missing payment canada.ca.

Why does a client stop getting the CCB even with low income?

A missing return is the usual cause. Your client and their spouse or common law partner each have to file a return every year, even with no income canada.ca. The Act ties the benefit to filed returns in subsection 122.61(1) laws-lois.justice.gc.ca.

A spouse who was a non resident for any part of the year reports world income on Form CTB9 instead. A change in marital status has to be reported by the end of the month after the change, and the CCB is recalculated from the month after it canada.ca.

Eligibility also has a status test: your client or their spouse must be a citizen, permanent resident, protected person, person registered under the Indian Act, or a temporary resident who has lived in Canada for the previous 18 months and holds a valid permit in the 19th month canada.ca.

How do shared custody and the child disability benefit change the amount?

When a child lives with each parent 40% to 60% of the time, the CRA treats it as shared custody canada.ca. Both parents should apply, and each gets 50% of what they would get with full custody, calculated on their own AFNI canada.ca. The CRA won't split it any other way, so a 70/30 arrangement is full custody for one parent and nothing for the other.

The child disability benefit adds up to $3,480 a year ($290 a month) for each child approved for the disability tax credit on Form T2201. It's reduced only above $82,847 of AFNI: 3.2% of the excess for one eligible child, 5.7% for two or more canada.ca. A family already getting the CCB doesn't apply separately.

When a child's DTC is first approved, the CRA calculates the CDB for the current benefit year and the two before it automatically. Earlier years need a written request to the tax centre canada.ca. DTC approval also opens the RDSP grant and bond for the child, and an infirm child under 18 can bring the Canada caregiver amount for the parent.

Is the Canada child benefit taxable income?

Canadian CPA

No. The CCB is a tax free payment canada.ca. The Act delivers it as a deemed overpayment of tax under subsection 122.61(1) laws-lois.justice.gc.ca.

Which year of income sets the July 2026 payments?

Canadian CPA

2025. The base year is the calendar year just before the payment period, so 2025 returns set the payments from July 2026 to June 2027 canada.ca. A 2026 drop in income won't raise the CCB until July 2027.

Who gets the CCB when both parents live in the same home?

Canadian CPA

The female parent, by default. The CRA presumes she is primarily responsible for the child and issues one payment per household canada.ca.

Can a client get the CCB for a foster child?

Canadian CPA

Not for any month the Children's Special Allowance is payable for that child. Kinship or close relationship care can qualify when the allowance isn't paid canada.ca.
