Venice AI alternatives: 6 picks, and who sees your Claude prompts

In brief

The best Venice AI alternative is Duck.ai for private Claude and GPT ($9.99 Plus, $19.99 Pro), Proton Lumo ($12.99 a month) for encrypted chat history, or Whizi for Claude, GPT, Grok and Kimi plus images on one plan. On Venice, Claude and GPT run in Anonymous mode, where Venice says to assume the provider stores your prompt.

Which Venice AI alternative fits why you use Venice?

Pick the alternative by the part of Venice you care about: private open models, private access to Claude and GPT, or many models on one bill. Venice's pricing page sells Pro at $18 a month or $180 a year, with unlimited text prompts and 100 credits a month for frontier models, video and music. We read every price below at its source on 31 October 2026, in US dollars.

The Duck.ai row is the one most Venice users miss. Its privacy page lists Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-5.6 Sol on the Pro tier, and DuckDuckGo's App Store listing prices Pro at $19.99 a month. Free Duck.ai includes GPT-6 Luna, Claude Haiku 4.5 and Mistral Small 4. Ollama is the opposite end: "Run models locally" with "No subscription", and only open models.

How private is Venice compared with the alternatives?

Venice is private for its own open models and much less so for Claude and GPT. Its privacy page sorts every model into four modes. Private, the default, runs "on Venice-controlled GPUs or zero-data-retention partner infrastructure". Anonymous is how Venice reaches GPT, Claude and Gemini, and Venice is blunt about it: "Your identity is obscured from the provider, but you should assume the provider is storing your content."

ServiceWhere your chat history livesWhat the model provider keepsTraining on your chats
Venice"Your conversation history stays on your device"Private mode: nothing. Anonymous mode (GPT, Claude, Gemini): assume the provider stores itNot stated for Anonymous providers
Duck.ai"By default, Duck.ai does not record or store any of your chats"Providers must delete prompts and responses "immediately after generating a reply"Providers must "Never use your Duck.ai conversations to train their models"
Proton LumoSaved on Proton with encryption: "Not even Proton can access them"Not stated on the pricing pageProton "never uses them to train AI"
Brave LeoCan be saved locally on your device"Leo doesn't retain or share chats""Your conversations are not persisted for model training"
WhiziSaved on Whizi's servers and synced across devices, until you delete themProviders may cache parts of a prompt under their own terms; Whizi makes no zero retention promiseWhizi doesn't train Whizi owned models on your chats or sell them

Read the Whizi row honestly: it's the least private service on this page. Whizi keeps your chats so they follow you from phone to laptop, and a message to Claude reaches Anthropic. Its privacy page says so. If you picked Venice because nothing is stored server side, Whizi isn't your swap. Duck.ai, Lumo or Ollama are.

Why does Venice cost more in its iPhone app?

Venice charges about 30% more when you subscribe in its iPhone app. Its App Store listing shows Venice AI Pro at $23.99 and $234.99, against $18 a month and $180 a year on the web. We compared the two on 31 October 2026.

It's the same plan on the same account, and you pay more for it. Proton charges the same $12.99 a month for Lumo Plus in both places. So if you stay on Venice, buy it on the web. Venice's yearly plan also saves 16.7% on Pro, which takes it to $15 a month.

Where does Whizi beat Venice, and where does it lose?

Whizi beats Venice if you mostly use frontier models. On Venice Pro, GPT and Claude are paid with credits, and Pro includes 100 a month, worth $1, since Venice prices 100 credits at $1. If you ask Claude a lot, that won't last you long. Whizi Pro is $29.99 a month for 2,500 credits, and Claude Opus, Claude Sonnet and ChatGPT Sol are inside them. Each model has one fixed credit cost per message: Claude Sonnet 5 is 10, and Claude Opus is 20.

The plan also covers Kimi K3, Grok, the DeepSeek, Llama, Mistral and Qwen lines, 100 pictures a month and side by side chats with two models on one prompt. That's the whole case: one bill where Venice would charge credits for each frontier answer.

Whizi loses on privacy, plainly. Venice keeps history on your device, offers TEE and end to end encrypted modes on Pro, and has a Private default for open models. Whizi has none of those. Venice wins here. It also has an API on Pro, and Whizi has no developer API at all.

When does staying on Venice win?

Staying wins if you mostly use Venice's Private open models. Nobody else here gives you unlimited text prompts on private open models, local history and a TEE mode for $18 a month. It also wins if you want an OpenAI compatible API, which Venice has on Pro and Whizi doesn't.

That's a real edge. Leave if your history shows mostly Claude and GPT. Those already run in Venice's Anonymous mode, so you're paying Venice credits for the same provider exposure you'd get elsewhere. Duck.ai Pro gives you Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-5.6 Sol with provider deletion promises. Whizi gives you those families plus Grok, Kimi K3 and DeepSeek on one plan.

Workflow checklist
  • Check which Venice models you used last month: Private, Anonymous, TEE or E2EE
  • If most were Anonymous (GPT, Claude, Gemini), compare Duck.ai Pro at $19.99
  • If you want saved chats nobody else can read, try Proton Lumo Plus at $12.99
  • If nothing should leave your computer, install Ollama and run an open model locally
  • If you want many frontier models and images on one bill, test Whizi Pro for a week
  • If you stay on Venice, subscribe on the web, not in the iPhone app
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Venice AI really private?

Venice is private for its Private, TEE and E2EE models, and less so for GPT, Claude and Gemini. Those run in Anonymous mode, where Venice says you should assume the provider is storing your content. Venice keeps your chat history on your device, not its servers, per its privacy page on 31 October 2026.

Is Venice AI free?

Yes, with limits. Venice Free gives base models, 10 text prompts a day and 15 image prompts a day, as of 31 October 2026. Venice Pro costs $18 a month or $180 a year on the web for unlimited text prompts, 1,000 images a day and 100 credits a month.

What is the most private alternative to Venice AI?

Ollama is the most private alternative to Venice, because it runs open models on your own computer and nothing leaves it. For a hosted service, Duck.ai stores no chats by default and requires its providers to delete prompts right after replying. Proton Lumo encrypts your saved chats so Proton can't read them.
